It was pretty cool adjusting the settings and turning a rather drab forest landscape into some really stunning colours. However alot of the photos seemed to look great on the little screen of the camera.. But when amplified on the computer I gotta admit I was dissappointed.. The computer doesn't really seem to show off the colour as much as the camera's little screen does..

So I'm down to two things.. 1) It's a sh*thouse dull display on a dodgey laptop I uploaded the photos to and I should upload them to something with a better screen. OR 2) I really didn't take half as good a picture as I thought I did.

Does anyone notice much difference in colours etc when they get their photos printed compared to looking at them on a computer screen?

I'd say your computer screen is the problem and/or the software you're using to view them.

I've got a wide gamut IPS panel monitor that gets calibrated every month to ensure consistent colour.

The software you use, including your internet browser can do funky things to colours also.

Are you shooting JPG files? Which colour space do you have it set to... sRGB or Adobe RGB? I'd suggest sRGB if you want your screen to match the camera better.

Printing is a whole other ball game. You can see colour shift there too. What you WILL see on prints is that they appear darker than the photos did on screen. That's because monitors are back lit. Test printing can get around that though.

I wouldn't suggest HDR for landscape as a rule, but there's certainly a place for it. Understanding what HDR is really achieving will show you why it can be of benefit and it's got nothing to do with that terrible over cooked look you'll see on a lot of shots.

I'm not really a manual shooter myself. I'm happy to trust the camera's meter most of the time. Again, there's times where it's called for, but don't get caught up thinking manual is the holy grail.

Haha I should admit that I did leave ISO on auto most of the time.. I was mainly playing with F and shutter speed.. But definitely need a tripod before I get too carried away with shutter speed..

I'm gonna take the work car out one night and have a crack at some night shots on cars.. Just to see how it goes.. Do you use a flash for cars Adam? Looking at a canon speed lite 600 just because the camera flash is sh*te.

Also uploaded some photos to my work PC.. Helluva lot better to look at.. It's running 3 HDMI monitors.. Definitely alot better colours.

First impressions

pop up flash is crap - ordered a couple chep setups and will be making a snoot for macro

Kit lenses take sofa king long to auto focus, way quicker with the manual.

The nifty 50 is my favourite so far but will try them all out this weekend.

Going to need more memory cards

Hi guys,

bought a cheap yn460 speedlite, just turned up. Attach it to hotshoe, turn on then turn camera on, camera says flash not compatible or not turned on.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yongnuo-YN-460-Flash-Speedlite-Canon-1100D-1000D-600D-550D-500D-/390436870568?pt=Digital_Camera_Flashes&hash=item5ae7d9d9a8

anything I'm missing, camera is a 600d?

Hate to tell you this but you've brought a falsely advertised product.

The YN-460 isn't compatible with the 600D. You need the YN-460II.

Supported models list is at the bottom of this page...

thanks Adam,

I'll be reporting this to ebay if they don't want to sort something out, lucky it was only $40, might be able to use it as a slave flash one day
