I'd say yes. The 60D has a few features which don't sound like they'd matter to you much, so save the money.

Image quality wise they're the same, so again, no advantage spending more than you need to.

60D would be easier to shoot video on because of the articulating screen, it's got a couple more FPS and it's a more robust body.

So without trawling back through many pages of this thread.. What was that book you recommended Adam? I just for an Idiots Guide to DSLR..

Scott Kelby has a series of 4 books about digital photography. Lots of useful information in them.

If you're looking to understand the technical side of what makes a photograph eg. Shutter speed, ISO and aperture then Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson is a good book too.

Make sure you have a screenshot and all the date time details as you're still eligible for compensation even if it 'disappears' tomorrow.

I'm guessing you already know all that though.

How'd you find out they were using it?
