the bit between the box and diff is my assumption.

driveshaft/tail shaft =same/same in my book. Bits between the diff and wheels = axles/half shafts :dontknow:

driveshaft.pdf

excerpt from a ba manual if anybodies interested. Refer the the trans to diff bit as the driveshaft.

Rear end section they call the bits between the diff and wheels axles for the ute and half shafts for the sedan

It is the bit between the gearbox and the diff, the driveshaft, and they are not solid, they are very thin tube

Interesting to note that on another forum a guy had the same issue and it was found that Ford either put cardboard in the hollow shaft to stop vibration, or forget to take it out, it gets wet and begin the internal rust cycle. His was covered by Ford, whatever way you look at it, they must be aware of the issue and yet they have done nothing about it. They will be wide open to all sorts of horrid claims if its true, if they knew and didn't do a recall or remedy the issue. Farking great way to look after customers.

It doesn't seem to be that common a problem though, not on here anyway. People break drive/tail shafts but this would have to be the first time I've heard of rust being the cause.

You would be spewing. Not even a great tale lol no pun intended.

It's a Ford.

Ford and rust are like bread and butter.

Ford and poor service ... well look in the OxFord dictionary under Service/poor and it says it's called Doing a Ford. Not in the top ten for customer satisfaction for how many years now?

Ford and cheap bumbling cost cutting measures to make another 10c a car. Whilst destroying a perfectly good design.
