cheers fellas reckon that's the problem... yeh I kinda slapped myself when I filled it! I'll ask bruce, but surely I should be able to up the octane with an additive? still got a brimming full tank... =(

Although Octane boosters aren't the best for cars, I don't think you have any other option. I would suggest a top up of 98 after pouring the octane booster.

Caltex is not a true 98. BP is prob the best u can get.

And who knows if p100 is really 100 coming from a united. It's prob 98 or 99

As independently tested by TOP GEAR. Shell V-POWER is the best premium unleaded available. They conducted a test between a regular 91octane followed by BP Ultimate and V-Power 98 on a dyno. A N/A car was used then 4cy turbo and then a V8. Shell V-Power = most RWKW.

that's what I'm not sure about, I had 98 in it when I took it for the tune but didn't tell bruce (didn't realise it would make a difference at the time). as far as I know he just did a standard tune, I never specified 98 or anything... would he have tuned it for 98 anyway if he suspected that was what was in the tank?

I must admit I'm a little naive when it comes to the different tunes available, I just asked for a flash tune!! :senile:

bud the more octaine the more timing u can tune the car 2

if it had 98 bruce would of tuned it till it had everything timing wise could of been a boom exercise for u not good .....................dont use octain booster just run it out and fill it next time on 98 just means u get to cruise it for 500 odd kms

that's funny coz both my wrx's and my xr all ran like ass crack on shell v power. Coughing spluttering and just running like a pig.

I always use BP Ultimate in all my sh*t heaps.

Top Gear are good at thrashing and giving their opion on casr but at testing fuels I dont know. All propper fuel testing is done in labs etc. To many variables on the dyno. Top gear probably have Shell fuel cards to fill up on hahaha

End of the day if your car is tuned on eg. bp altimate always going to run better then eg. Vortex or v power

I use Shell in my lawn mower, and that's about all its good for.

Most performance motorbikes dont like it either. Blokes I used to ride with had starting probs with Shell,

then switched to Mobil 98, and problems gone.

So yeah, BP, and then I would say Caltex.
