Does anyone know if its illegal to drive around with the tailgate down on my ute? The bike doesn't quite fit with it up :s Just gotta make sure your plates showing or the cops will rob you blind

Looking at getting some dent removal done at some point, some nasty asss MF decided to leave the imprint of their edge of their car door in the side of my ute (thanks flinders secure parking not), and another smaller one in the rear tailgate which should be pretty easy to remove. Been looking at paintless dent removal, I've tried foyles bloke and they dont wanna touch the one from the door. Rang my insurance and I'd be charged $400 excess for each =/ bit pissed at that... so who does good dent removal? reasonably cheap?
