My competition charges around $80 per hour, Im starting off around $25 per hour to build up my portfolio and break into the market.

If you want to really compete then improve the quality. Not substitute the quality with a lower price. Another point to think about is that if you charge $25 now it's going to be very hard to increase that. People tell other people how much they pay for things. Why would someone give you $80 today for something someone got yesterday for $25?When I started I did it for free until I had my style and an end product at a level I'd be happy to buy from someone else. That's how I gauge my work. I don't give anyone a shot that I wouldn't be happy with myself. I'll reshoot to get things just the way I want it. If I think it can be improved then I'll try and improve it.

Im only offering this price on here for a group of 4 or more cars. I have been doing shoots for free for 6 months now, albeit just word of mouth stuff. My only reasons for charging now is that I have had several people cut my watermarks out of photos and re-post them elsewhere, which I wouldn't care about if they had paid for my time and effort, but Id like recognition if its not purchased. I feel the same when it comes to getting shots perfect for people, but as you know certain things don't show up on a viewfinder, that you notice once on the computer, and then comes the time you spend post processing photos to get them perfect.I appreciate the advice though mate

He goes by Ignition Images and his work is very good. You've got a bit to go before you get up to his level IMHO.I don't do a lot of post processing on mine. No PhotoShop at all. Probably spend an average of 1-2 minutes per shot. You don't want to get into the trap of thinking you can fix the problems in post.

He's probably taken 70-80 photos of my Foon and I was never charged for the privilige. Edited 07/01/12 07:51 AM by Foon
