Henz, that is the dealer warrarnty that doesnt cover things like that.

Statutory warranty is valid for 30 days after the purchase to fix ANY issues that come up on the vehicle.

When I bought from a dealer I had the Discs machined and Steering rack creek fixed under the stat. warranty.

Buy private I say. Less hassle....

Sorry just to qualify my previous comment, the statutory warranty on used cars is different in every state. In Qld it's pretty strict and heavily skewed in the favour of the buyer. May not be the same in other states.

But yes I agree Henz that a dealer warranty on the other hand is often next to useless.

It was dealer and to do with warranty on a second hand car. The mistake may have been buying a Ford from a Expensive Daewoo dealership.

Stat warranty in Vic is 3 months or 5000ks and covers everything. Then when that ends you get the sh*tty dealer warranty that does sweet f*ckall. 1 week out from the stat warranty ending just go to mechanic and them to find things and go back to dealer and get them fixed.

Auctions:

Auction is the cheapest way that you'll get a car. There is even a warranty sometimes as well. Even if you end up spending a few hundred patching up a few things (eg machining brake discs) the few grand that you save on the purchase price will offset that.

The trick is to do your homework on pricing. And, at the auction, set yourself a limit, and stick to that limit.

The big auction places also broadcast the auctions via web site as well. Useful for watching and getting values without blowing off a day sitting around getting bored.

there are few reasons I don't like auction, there is an auction fee on all vehicles, no roadworthy, price difference is not much, you can't test the car before buying, the only thing you can do is start the engine.
