Turbo Bearings Gone

I had bent fins on my turbo before. Didnt have a choice other than to drive around keeping boost under -10psi which is absolutley nothing until I could get time off work to pull the turbo out and get it repaired. I got Precision turbos to do it in sydney. He fitted a new core kit and got it rebalanced with 1 yr warranty all I had to do was refit it back in the car. Total cost was $900 if I dont inc. coolant and oil.

Im assuming you dont have an aftermarket inline oil feed supply filter to the turbo so you might wanna get 1 of those to when/if you are going to go ahead with it.

Thanks guys, brilliant advice and I appreciate it.

I am going to drive it VERY carefully like Croozin for a few weeks whilst I consider either trading or fixing (no point fixing as won't get the money back on trade - might as well let them do it). Bit of a risk I know, but think I can baby it just enough hopefully.

Rang my mechanic to do the above as per RHR (remove oil filter feed-line screen) and answer was "I can't do it, had no idea a turbo had one?" - lol. Rang a second workshop and they said you can't do it unless you have an after market one (I don't). Fair dinkum, I have no idea how to do these things myself (nor have the tools) but you would guess "professionals" should surely!!

You can just pull the filter out altogether or buy one from ford.

Mate, thanks for advice but I think you may be over-estimating my car knowledge slightly - I wouldn't have a clue where the filter is, let alone pull it out.......

Its times like these why I wonder why I buy performance cars yet know nothing mechanically........I will buy a Workshop manual and see if I can work out how to do it, especially if its a simple job that I can do with my (limited) tools.

Just take the filter out, there isnt really any need for it. If your getting bits of metal that will damage the turbos ball bearing at that point in the oil system you've got much bigger problems than your turbo getting stuffed.

This is also the first vehicle I know of to have a pre-turbo oil filter and seems like an after thought in the build. Having no filter is much better than no oil.

If you want to do it you can by removing the air box to crossover. Then just read through the sticky with the pics and you should be able to figure it out.

I have no idea if this is happening or not so I guess its fingers crossed until I either get it fixed or trade at whatever price.

the oil should have already been through your oil filter, the holes in the aftermarket in line filter kits could strain corn out what happens after a big feed and night on the turps in thailand. The holes in the stock one get clogged very easy and then the turbo dies.

I wouldn't be worried about that. I was just eluding to the fact that is the only reason to have a filter in that position and since you'd have to really screw the motor it wont be needed.

Don't think you should trade it for a $1500 fix, how many Kmh on it anyway? If the cars been good just fix and enjoy it still.

mate dont throw in the towl so quickly ,get your turbs ripped off send it to hypergear (pazzo recomends)get rebuild I think I read on their site u get new oil feed line with rebuild if not they will sell u one install fresh turbs and oil line and fresh oil and enjoy your car again, 2g max. the more u drive your car now the more damage your doin the more its gunna cost. by the sounds of the mechanic your seein I wouldnt trust him with my p.o.s pushy(change your brake cable... nah cant do that its held on by a scew thingy..LOL)
