Has anybody experianced their turbo going red hot after giving the car a few good/hard high speed hits?Is this normal, bad, something to be worried about, something to ignore?Any info you guys can give me would be much appreciated.Whilst im at it, for all you guys with BOV out there, do you think the BOV would make a difference with heat on the turbo (if its full vented) and have you noticed any loss in drivability (smoothness of powerband, speed, pulling power etc)Thanks for your help guysDean Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/7702-turbo-red-hot/ Share on other sites

Turbos by their very nature run very hot when you give the car some stick. Put it on a Dyno and do a couple of runs and you will actually see it glowing bright red. (The exhuast too) So it sounds quite normal, because the turbo on the xr6 runs such low boost, Ford say that you don't need a turbo timer but if you are worried enough you may want to invest a couple of hundred dollars in one if it will put your mind at ease. This's a Ford not a ricer, you don't ned a big sneezer to be impressive, your turbo will glow, mostly only visible at night time. Good luck with your beast, cook rice then blow it.Scotty Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/7702-turbo-red-hot/#findComment-68764 Share on other sites

Quite normal for turbos as far as I'm aware. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/7702-turbo-red-hot/#findComment-68806 Share on other sites

Every time I give a WRX driver a bit of a CHHHH, they run me........poor bastards, they always loose (have we got a post on cars that have fallen to the ALLMIGHTY T) ?? Nah, its not all that loud, ill get over it, initially I wanted a turbo for the sound, ive been a V8 man till now. I think its just a stage till I get it out of the system Vik, mine is manual, so I dont need the tran cooler. As for the oil cooler, where would that go, what does that do, how much does it cost, where can I get it done, and does anybody have any pics of how it looks ??? (sorry about the 21 questions)Thanks for all your help guys, I feel much better now knowing that this is normal behaviour for a turbo Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/7702-turbo-red-hot/#findComment-68919 Share on other sites

If you want a nice sound, try the Xr8 snorkel into the standard airbox a-la 56mainline.
