Hey guys, doing a mountain run yesterday, half way up I noticed a fuel smell, thought nothing of it, got to the top and my fuel pump was noisier than normal ( bosch 044 ) and a fuel smell on the left side of the car around about where the pump sits in the tank.

I got home and pulled the pump out and whacked it back in, seemed to fix the noise but could still smell it. Now today, the pump is noisy again and the fuel smell is a little stronger.

I don't think the pump is shagged as its only fairly new. Mates XR has the same problem. Anyone know what it is, or what it could be ? Thanks.

An 044 IN THE TANK?

The 044 is a noisy pump, and they seem to get even louder when they or things get hot.

They would have to be the noisiest fuel pump I have ever known.

Buy a Pierburg and you will wonder why the 044's are just so damn noisy.

I think my little rubber seal might be screwed, When the car is cools its quieter, but If I give it a boot full, it becomes noisier.
