Hi to all you Ford owners out there,

I am seriously considering in purchasing a Sct X3 Flash Tuner from Herrod Motorspot in Thomastown in Victoria. My dilema is that I am hearing a lot of contradictions in regards to buying one.

1. Some people say it will void my new car warranty, and some say it it will not void my warranty.

2. Some say that the custom tune itself will be detected by your dealership when you take it for a service, and others say it cannot be detected.

3. I also got told that it is not worth buying one because the kilowatt gain you will get is only around 15rwkw, and others say its more.

So I am asking you Ford Lovers out there for your help so I can make a informed decision about purchasing a flash tuner.

Cheers, Happy Ford motoring, take care and God Bless.

yes it will void your warranty, and yes it can be detected by ford.

the x3 is just the box, you still need to take it to a dyno tuner so they can tune your car and save a tune to the box.

if the box comes with a generic tune, ie a pre loaded one you run the risk of damage to your car running these. highly recommened you do NOT do this.

to gain the most of a tune, its best used with mods such as injectors, intake etc etc.

there are a few threads here below that explain a few basics mods to do inc the tune and box.

Just to clarify the warranty issue, any modifications will only void the warranty on related parts where there is a clear link between the modification and the fault.

I.e. if you tune your car and a headlight fails then it'll still be claimable under warranty. The entire car and every component is not 'black listed'

Those two links that fordfreak posted will give you more than enough info

I'm not convinced that the generic tunes do cause damage if you do the injectors, intake etc as per a custom. There are heaps of cases of engines etc blowing whether generic or custom, also with many happy customers either way.

I have absolutely no doubt that a custom tune is much preferred for maximum and smooth power. However, for those who - 1. can't afford a custom tune in addition to XCal, or 2. cannot reach a reputable place to get it custom tuned - then XCal can still be used for noticable benefit on the low generic tunes.

Just my 2 cents :icon_ford:

AND :stupid::stupid: Well said TAB, 100% agree.
