I am just wondering which if any can you do with out a press? its just that I live out in the sticks and labour is about $120hr+ and I dont really trust any one with my car anyway, its my daily and I dont really want to do it during the week as I work mon-fri and NO ONE works after 12 on sat. Getting a wheel alignment after wards is no drama as the missus can take it for that during the week. Ive also heard the ball joints flog out regularly? ive had the front apart when I changed struts and I couldnt get any play out of them so I assume they are fine or are they one of those things that only move under load? The wheel brgs are fine too. The reason im doing these are under heavy brakiing it pulls hard to the right and when going up curbs and going from full lock to lock it knocks. From what ive read I should retorque the steering rack bolts and check K-frame bolts aswell? The car is BF F6 sedan with 100 000kms on it.CheersChris

I used a small 8t supercheap special. Does front end bushes and ball joints regularly,I fing a gentle application of heat from a MAP gas torch helps too move them if they are tight tight.Im 99% sure Pat from WSP can supply rebushed arms on a changeover basis? this may be a better option for you? Would be waaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster.

The owner picked up a set of arms, had bushes installed by pedders (stock bushes) took 5 hrs to swap them out and fit a set of 6 pot front brembo's, saves a couple of hours

Do they come out fairly easy or do they need jigs and special tooling to get them out? Do the super pro ones need to be pressed in? Not all are stuck like this but 50% will be if mine was any indication. Get a shop to do it or find someone who's super keen like Luke and made a press in their garage. What else would would I need? Can I get away with using sockets and various scrap steel to press the bushes out or do I need jigs to support the arms as I press out bushes? I can probably get an oxy set as well. This way would be my preferred way as in the end I get a press for the money I would have otherwise given to a workshop. Edit: I am more than happy to buy a press I just want to know how difficult it is with a press Edited 12/09/11 05:24 AM by knoles

From memory Luke used large sockets that match the size of the bushes and put them on the end of the jack. The arm flexes quite a lot as well which doesn't help, I'd imagine bracing the sides of the actual ring would be better, Luke would be better to comment on that though, maybe there's a reason to let it flex. Picked up a spare set of arms from a taxi workshop - I've got the option of either taking the originals back or paying $200 to keep the four arms as spares. I'll probably go looking through the Quokka for a BA/BF wreck and getting some arms for bugger all.I took the spare set to Pedders in Osborne Park, with a bunch of new bushes. Cost me $110 to have them fit the bushes to the arms and they paint them as well.Pedders have heaps of their own arms - if you're going to do the job at home then it would be worth talking to them first - it might be that you can get some arms of them first (with new bushes fitted) and return your old ones later. I dealt with Lex there, he was very helpful.
