I had my heat exchanger and ZF flushed with Transmax Z on Thursday. Massive improvement. I've had it serviced twice before, once with Penrite and once with Genuine but this is the best yet.

I do about 5 track days a year with ZF and thrash the crap out of it.

I replace the ZF heat exchanger every year and the ZF Fluid (genuine) every year.

Bought mine in bulk from here:

Have the ZF auto serviced here at Central Automatic Transmissions in Sydney :

(Did a lot of research and these guys seemed the best with the most experience on ZF's)

Done 10 track days and 150,000kms. ZF still runs like new. Last 80,000kms has been on a tuned engine anywhere between 270 and 340rwkw.

Good idea to flush the coolant regularly if keeping the factory heat exchangers to try keep corrosion down.

I priced one up recently at my local ford, $176. Have seen prices in the $120 region mentioned elsewhere though.

nice one nelson

where are you buying the heat exchanger from each time?

Buying the Heat Exchanger from Ford, but the bigger one (orange dot) supplied on the F6. It has more plates.

One thing that did piss me off when I bought the car brand new in mid 2008 (preordered), was I ticked the option for the bigger auxilary tranmission oil cooler (about $250 extra from memory). Didn't get one. (just got the stock smaller one with the yellow dot, that apperas on all ZF autos)

Ford at the time didn't have a clue. Eventually (after weeks of stuffing around) got it replaced for free as part of what they called "The Police Pack"

Think there was a thread on Aust. Ford Forums a few years back on it. Wouldn't be surprised if there were heaps of FGXR6T owners bought new in 2008 with ZF that ticked the bigger "Auxillary Cooler" box and recieved nothing!

5 seconds! Surely not.

Good to hear it's behaving normally again.

.5 seconds> half a second!!!!

yeh I payed $250 for my heat exchanger. Also I spoke to Ford about the corroding of them and they believe it to mainly be from the cause of people mixing the wrong % of coolant going through the systeM> not buying the appropiate pre mix stuff. Was quoted $55 for 5L and they reckon I required 10 litres for a full flush of the coolant but I opted not to do it this time

Coolant corrosion doesn't help, but new FG's have stuffed up with less than 30 thousand on the clock.

Makes you wonder about changing them, what if the one on there is ok and you put a new dud exchanger on and it f*cks up.

Think I might piss it off and go an air/oil cooler

Since I removed my heat exchanger and fitted the Setrab air/oil cooler I have had no trouble so far. Fingers crossed it will stay that way. I talked to a guy that works at a gearbox shop and he said he wouldn't even drive it home with the standard heat exchanger. Mine didn't leak but you never know I guess.
