I was visiting my brother last weekend and I travelled on a road that is known to sometimes have a mobile speed camera.

On this particular day I wasn't vigilant enough and copped a $153 fine :censored:

The road has a 60km/h speed limit, the notice showed a detected speed of 68km/h with the alleged speed of 65km/h.

I have heard of some people, because it's been their first offence, have been able to write and ask for a exemption to the fine.

Has anyone tried this?

Is it really worth the hassle of writing in and trying to get out of it. Sounds like your not sure you were speeding but cant say ya werent. I got done last thursday morning at 440am riding a bicycle home pissed with no lights, was laughing when the cop fined me $55 for it.

About 10 years ago I got my first speeding fine, at the time had a crappy old commodore. I wrote a bullsh*t letter saying at the time of the speeding offence I thought I was going the speed limit but I had the speedo checked out after I got the ticket and it turned out it was out by about 5km/h. I sent in a dodgy receipt saying the speedo was replaced and I got off the fine.

I also saw a few weeks ago on one of those current affairs programs where one of the producers got a ticket and she wrote a letter saying it was lapse in concentration and she actually got off the ticket. Its worth a try!! How long have you been driving for??

My first fine I wrote to them saying it was my first offence, was new to driving round the area bla bla bla... and got off...

My mates dad wrote that his daughter had her period and he was in a rush to get her home and got off..

Worth a try I reckon, esp its your first offence..

I say go for it man. Nothing to lose. Just admit you were in the wrong, but you are really apologetic and you will en-devour to to prevent it from re-occurring. Explain that you are proud of having a clean slate, and would like to keep it that way.

5km/h over the limit. Geez they not giving you a break over that.

Good timing for the post.I just finished doing some reading on the www.fines.vic.gov.au site and it gives

an opportunity to apply for an Official Warning as long as you fulfill one or more of their provisos such as having a good driving record and your detected speed

was less than 10 klm/h below the speed limit.

I will write a letter however,I will not hold my breath.

If Victorian members are interested to see what they can do about their fines the link below should be helpful.

Official warnings and internal reviews(Vic.Police services)

*UPDATE* *UPDATE*

I received a letter today from The Victorian Police stating the fine has been withdrawn and that I have been issued an Official Warning from Vic.Police.

Therefore I don't have to pay the penalty and I keep the point the were going to deduct! :yay:

So guys, if you are unlucky to get snapped by a speed camera, and have a relatively good driving record and admit to speeding

in your letter, you just may avoid the fine and receive an Official Warning instead,it's worth a try!
