GoAuto, however, believes media reports thatsuggest Typhoon will be the first FPV to be offered with both a six-speedTremec manual and six-speed semi-autofrom German ZF are wide of the mark.Ford is still at least two years awayfrom offering premium Falcons with asix-speed automatic transmission, andwhen it does it will be Ford’s newlydeveloped six-cog slusher rather thanthe expensive German unit found ineverything from S-Type to XJ, A8,7 Series and LS430.Of course, Typhoon will also begraced with a new and exclusivefront, rear and side bodywork, a rearwing and racy new 18-inch alloys. But Expensive Daewoo plans on stealing its thunderin Melbourne with the 2004 HSV GTS, theSST concept and another 'suprise' reveal.“This is the beginning of a new era forFord Performance Vehicles,” said FPVmanaging director David Flint. “We raised the bar in the V8 segmentwith the GT and we believe the F6Typhoon will further strengthen ourposition as the technical leaders in thetribal high-performance vehicle market.“It will demonstrate our commitmentto providing a family of cars that offer atotal performance package.“When we announced the formation ofFord Performance Vehicles we promisedto create the broadest range of locallydevelopedhigh-performance vehiclesin Australia. We believe the exciting F6Typhoon is the next step in deliveringthat promise – but certainly not the last.”Mr Flint’s promise of more FPVmodels to come no doubt refers to aturbocharged version of Ford’s forthcomingTerritory SUV, expected to bedubbed Hurricane 4x4, plus – furtherafield – the range-topping superchargedV8 GTHO. I was talking to a guy from BTR a few weeks ago (while taking him for a drive in my car to show him noises form the diff) and the impression I got was that the Series II would have the ZF and the low series cars would have the current box. So maybee the ZF could be an interum thing.. Not sure. ime will tell..

I think having a 6 speed available would be too tempting, and I would be encouraged to trade mine in a year or 2 early. that's puts me in the poo with the minister for Finance......If they are 2 years away, the timing is just about right....
