Hi Guys,

Just writing for advice as I'm getting conflicting opinions. My BA Mk11 Turbo Ignition turns on the start position, starts but won't spring back to normal on position, so I have to manually turn it back. It seems to be on the way out and just don't want to get caught out and stuck. Is it just the barrel that needs replacing or I'm hearing it is the whole steering column which sounds a bit of overkill at $1200+ (After ringing Ford dealership)

Any advice would be welcomed.

Cheers

Yeah that's right, unless its a wagon (which you can buy a new ignition switch separate) you have to replace the whole steering column just to get a new ignition barrel. Its absolute crap but the next best bet would be finding a good one off of a wreck cause they do come apart; Ford just chose not to sell them separate to make more money when they did go I guess and I know this cause I work in parts for Ford..........'sigh'

Thank you so much for your reply. I guess my worse fears are realised. I have done some research on Ebay and secondhand they don't seem too bad. My question is it something I can get the partner to change over or pay someone to do and not cost an arm and a leg. (any recommendations of good workshops on the Gold Coast).

I believe there are some people around who will do car locks/ignition locks....google "car locksmiths". Don't think an ordinary locksmith would do it though.

It probably just needs a $2 spring replaced in it. Got to be better than removing & replacing a steering column!

Had this happen on my BA MkII sedan. Ford replaced the lock barrel, not the whole steering column. Still wasnt cheap. Try to ring another Ford service centre for a second opinion.

There's a guy on eBay selling genuine ignition barrel and keys sets for $300
