My 12psi garret and profile autosports ported rear has no issues with any boost I want - currently 18psi. Interestingly Clinton did one recently as a complete unit from MTA (inc their rear housing) and it wouldn't go under 23psi. Owner love the 410rwkw it made so left it as it was.

That's interesting old_mate. I know Ratter has just done one (dyno run on his page) and had issues with boost control and consistency. That car ended up with a 19psi actuator running 20psi after the 12psi just wasn't working He spent a considerable amount of time tuning it. Others such as yours have run a 12psi with no issues.

I'm also running one of Clinton's OEM ported housings. As stated earlier in the thread, there was nothing technically found wrong with the MTA one when we removed it. Not much enlargement or porting done but it appeared to be seating ok.

It seems to be a bit random. Unfortunately for me, we just haven't got it 100% yet.

The car goes in again next week and I'm fitting a turbosmart unit with at least a 15psi spring. Fingers crossed it finally drives smooth as when I pick it up.

I'd prefer to keep it old_mate given the time and effort - not to mention dollars I've invested. I also like my polished cover, lol. That said, I want the car to be smooth which unfortunately for me the new combo just hasn't delivered, at this stage.

I'm aware of a car tuned last week (not by Hi-Torque) that took three days to get right. It displayed near identical issues to mine. Others like yours have given no grief. Bottom line, they've given some tuners a hard time to get right eating up heaps of time and other combos not so much. The one I just mentioned was almost pulled off the car and sent back. Only after massaging the supplied MTA housing and putting a 19psi actuator on it would it finally work.

With the GTX3576R still being on special, I made the call that if I can step out of the 750 without ripping up too much, it may be the easiest path going forward. I'll never push the 750 to it's limits but liked the idea of having some headroom left when I chose it. The reality is though, the smaller gtx is bang on my power goal with mad low end spool and at $1375 - bargain. Also, I'm not aware of it having any funky random boost control issues causing tuners to pull their hair out.

Given I've been bleeding boost at different inputs as the waste gate oscillates and doesn't know what to do, I've only ever seen a glimpse of how good the turbo would feel if sorted. That has kept me going until now. More than likely, it won't sell. The car goes in next week regardless. If I've still got the turbo, we'll have one final crack with the firmer actuator and retune.

Well, got some interest in the 750 so unless it falls over or the boys are keen to persevere, looks like she's outta there!

I sought some advice from mates tonight. Given the bs I've already been through it gets down to following the path of least resistance. We could swap the actuator out and fiddle with uncertainty or swap the turbo for something proven, that's given little or no documented grief.

Something I've weighted heavily in this decision is the ute Ratter tuned last week. Got there in the end but again, caused a world of butt hurt to tune to his standard. Hi-Torque have already pulled their hair out so I'd like to be able to give them some certainty also. I don't like making things hard for people.

I make no apologies for wanting my car to run as smooth as stock. Without cams, these things are more than capable of giving you that provided decent stuff is used. Some might be happy provided it made a decent number and couldn't care how it drove at say 20 - 30% throttle input. I won't settle for that though.

The timing of the ute tune and that the GTX3576R is on special again, is aligning the planets. I like my polished housing but think I'll get over it pretty quickly with a smooth running car again :)
