I've stated a couple a few times that I'm an open book with my thread or in my opinion, it's worthless.

The car still had an annoying but intermittent weird surge which had dogged it since the turbo upgrades were done. I replaced just about every bit of supporting hardware you could think of trying to chase it down. If you drove it like you stole it - no issues. But, I'm super fussy and wanted to get some refinement back into it.

My tuner went to a lot of trouble to identify the fault including sending the file to Herrod's for a second opinion. Little tweaks were made over time and we thought we'd fixed it a few times but unfortunately, it would return.

I became increasingly frustrated - as you always do with intermittent crap and did put the car up for sale. Two things though. Firstly, I didn't want to pass the problem on to someone else and secondly, the car felt so good when it was 'happy'. If I never tracked it down it would always leave me wondering wtf was wrong with it given it was so close to being spot on.

So, after discussing it with my tuner I made the call to get a clean set of eyes to look at it. This for their sanity and mine.

Profile Autosports retuned the car from scratch today. The existing ZF tune was also removed. The actuator preload was tweaked and the new hi-flow reg installed.

It was nice air in the cell today. Best run 377, 364, then bit more fuel in the mid and final trim of 375.9rwkw on BP98.

Bonus to crack 500hp in the old language but the real measure was how it drove. Whether it was the reg, preload tweak, or something in the tune but bottom line, old mate surge is officially dead! Hooray! I'm running the stock ZF tune with some minor tweaks which I must say makes it much smoother. WOT upshifts are fine.

All said, the car finally has near OEM manners which I rapt about. Drives so nice but can torch the tyres into third if you want also :) Finally I'm there :)

So before anyone starts (one moron already has) I have nothing but respect for the guys at Hi-Torque Performance. I still intend to use them for other work as necessary but yes, the car has now been tuned by Profile. That's the last comment I intend to make on this.

With the surge was it on deceleration like the revs would bounce even some l times stall. mine surges like fark. At wot its sick but as soon as you are off the loud pedal it surges. Car park speeds it just so sh*t to drive.

I have asked the next tuna about fuel reg. But I might get him to look at the pre load aswell to see if its spot on. 12lb t smart with half hole preload.

Sweet Bomber

Bit of a bummer that the actual cause of the surge wasn't identified (coz then I'd know where to look).

Grab the printout at some stage and share it please :)

Couldn't mate because Clinton had to tweak the preload and fit new regulator first. I got there before he opened as it was so the car could cool down.

The only thing he wasn't completely happy with was it was creeping a bit in the mid. Hi-Torque had the same issue but their chart doesn't look a noticeable because of smoothing. It was lovely for making boost yesterday too - like 18 degrees. He's not a huge fan of Turbosmart actuators so we'll put a garrett one on at some point so he can fiddle a bit more.

One thing about the little GTX is they looove making boost. They run a high pressure wheel and are at peak efficiency running 20+. If you fit one to a 1.06 housing with an efficient exhaust and turbo side intake, you may struggle to keep it under 18psi. My port job is pretty much maxed leaving minimal seat so it's not like I can bore it out further to bleed some off. It touches 21 in the mid and holds 19. He pulled 3 deg of timing out compared to the 18psi HTP tune.

Took it to work today and it was 10 degrees first up this morning. Gave it a squirt on the on ramp and holly mother!! It is sooo smooth now but insanely quick. The amount of throttle input required to hit warp speed also is minimal. I haven't actually been game to floor it yet, lol. Luke (Bionic on here) drove it a Profile and said it was torching the rears well into third :)

All said, it drives magnificently for a 500hp car. Other than the tu tu's and zort note, it has factory manners. Perfect idle, no pops, just purrs. Don't mind saying, I teared up on the way home this arvo with both joy and relief.
