Yes 51XRT,

you're correct in this one. They seem to grow in strength when your at your weakest. Like a transfer of energy, damm things, I liken them to stagHORNS.

Sorry should have said this in my original post.

When sitting in traffic or when driving slowly the temp gauge is either just below half way, but if you sit for more than a couple of minutes it quickly jumps to near the three quarter mark.

And the fans always seem to be on!!!

This happens even on coll days like today which was only about 15deg.

By the way I live in Wellington, New Zealand.

Thanks for all the responses so far. Good to see that it maybe just a one off.

Cheers

Chris

that's strange.

Mine rarely gets more than a few mm over half way. Most times it is just under half way. (Although I havent done much driving in heat yet...mostly mid 20's and the occasional 30 degree day).

Id say you have a problem for sure.

First place I would check, assuming the XR6T's have one, is the radiator bypass thermostat. If you dont know what that is....many cars, when the engine is cold, actually stop coolant flowing through the radiator. This leaves a very limited amount of coolant in the engine, and stops the radiator from losign heat in the already too-cool radiator coolant.

So by leaving the coolant completely or largely stuck in the engine, it heats up much faster so the engine is quite quick to reach operating temperature.

Once the engine reaches a certain temp, a thermostat triggers a valve to open, and the coolant starts running into the radiator as normal.

If that valve is stuck part way closed or similar, then not as much coolant gets to flow through the radiator as it should. The effect is reduced cooling ability. The fans can stay on as long as they want, but with less coolant flowing into the radiator, they do a much reduced job of cooling the engine, and thus the engine's average temperature would be much higher.

Regardless of cause, find a friendly Ford dealer and ask them to find and fix the cause. The fans shouldnt be running the whole time unless you are in slow traffic and the car is constantly hot without much airflow. Also, with aircon on the fans tend to run a little more, but still nto all the time.

Had my baby for almost a year now.

In Melbourne weather it's never gone past half way. It normally hangs between 1/4 and 1/2. :smilielol:

What he said.
