Hey all,

just had my first change of rear tyres.

At 10,000km's.

Tyre dealer guy couldnt believe it. (I could...he doesnt know how I drive! I once went through a front set of medium hard Yoki's in 5000km on a FWD car). And not a single burnout or circlework has been done.

Front tyres are about half done.

So for those of you who have replaced your rear tyres, how many km's did you get? Mine were down the the tread wear indicator on the inner part of the tyre. The outer part were about 1mm above the tread wear indicator. (Check both!)

Front brake pads will need doing soon. Actually saw a column of smoke coming from them when I pulled up at my parents place yesterday, sitting there waiting for the turbo to cool. Initially thought there was a fire under the bonnet and killed the engine, jumped out and had a look. (Ok, so maybe the preceeding 10 mins was some pretty spirited driving and heavy braking!).

Thank God the company is paying for the tyres. I did my maths, and depending on how it goes (keeping in mind Ive had the car since April, so much has been wet weather tame driving) and it looks like in the first 2 years I will go through $3000-4000 worth of tyres. (At around $273each tyre+fitting+balancing etc)

Not too shabby. Just glad Im not paying for them!

Bloody hell. How do you drive?.. the worst life I get from tyres was about 15,000 in a FWD car and that's driving like a looney 70% of the time. The rears on my XR6T after 6,000 almost look new, and that's with very spirited driving. Are you sure the tyres were at the right pressure?

21,000 on mine and they are still running good.

My rears are half as good as my fronts though, plenty of grip left still.

I'm very suprised they lasted me this long, as I'm sure every one here is too because they know how I drive. :funnydance:

That will change this Thursday...

Hmm, wonder if my brand new brake pads need to be replaced this thursday as well....

Need to price up some SP3000A's, and Ferodo pads..

mickq.

Bloody hell man. I'm with KrasH.........

Admittedly, these days I'm a pretty conservative driver. Have got 22k so far and tyres not too bad. Have done two lots of doughnuts for the workshop boys out the front on the concrete apron when it's been a bit damp with no real wear showing.

Worst I ever got was 25k in a manual ED back when.

I probably would not make a good passenger for you............. :funnydance:

have 23,000 k's & I'm pushing the envelope with all four tyres, in particular back right. Rotated at 10k & 20k.

The AUiii used to chew the rubber, fronts in 5000. They have fixed the tyre eating problem to an extent. However when a work mate hits a gutter they dont last, one "egged" the other rim and tyre sliced.

Its only rubber, I remember the glory days of driver training and one new set would not last a day on the V8 and a tank of fuel way less than a hundred k's.

I've done 21,000km and my rears (17" Sp3000) are on their last legs. The wet weather grip is still very impressive - probably more of a reflection of the new BA rear end setup.

Fronts probably have another 5,000 to 8,000km left. I'm relunctant to change the front tyres as I have not had any brake shudder since 9,000km (based on the "Brake Shudder" posts - I.e. having the correct front wheel nut torque).

I'm gonna run all the tyres into the ground.

Gee curious,

my AU 1 wears out its tyres perfectly. I've done 135,000k's , it's on its 3rd set & they're still even as all hell, doesn't require a rotation even. Must be blessed that car. Hope Ken doesn't find out it Silver. LOL
