Hello guys,

Just got back from overseas yesterday and the first thing I did is took my baby for a spin ( 2005 XR6T with a 5 speed in it). Driving down a main road and I saw a mate next to me so I decided to give it to it a little bit, from here I cant remember exactly what happened (because of shock) but I went to double clutch it from 2nd maybe, to 3rd and then I just felt a cracking noise and smoke was pouring from the engine bay, pulled over (so did my mate) and the engine bay was pouring smoke, he told me he saw sparks from under the car. I turned off the car immediately, sussed out the motor, and it seemed all the smoke was comming from the block, around the turbo. I started the car again, and it started smoking badly, I slightly pressed the accelerator and fire came from the motor. that's when I turned off the car straight away and organised a tow truck. I am pretty stressed out, nothing has fallen from the engine (as far as im aware of) and all that was left on the ground was a little patch of oil about 10cm wide...

Does anyone have any starting points for me before I take my wallet to the mechanics..

Any help will be greatly apreciated.

doesn't sound too good mate. where did the fire come from?????

oil on the floor means its either coming from your block somewhere (maybe a rod or something has let go and cracked your block??) or an oil line to the turbo or something has failed, which could also explain the smoke from burning oil onto hot parts.

how about grabbing a decent torch, and looking all over the block/turbo from the top and also from under the car (use car ramps, or a jack/jack stands..etc) and looking if there is anything obviously wrong with the engine/turbo

Thanks for the reply mate,

Yeah I know im in a bit of trouble, can a blown transmission have any of those symptoms? I just dont understand how f*cking up a gear shift could blow a motor, I was only travelling at around 60ks

Either way mate your gonna have to take it somewhere, get someone who knows what they are doing to look over it.. Short of that theres not much you can do but as said above, get a torch out and look for something wrong.. Have a look on the ground, if theres any oil still dripping, trace it up and see where its coming from..

Dont try and understand why these cars do what they do mate just be prepared for when it happens. Do yourself a favor dont let it stress you just talk to some good people and get the best option possible for a fix.

Having blown a 5 speed I doubt it is that, im pretty sure you have put a little hole in your block. When I blew my 5 speed in the BA the car always felt strong and went hard then one day it just let go.

First thing how long were you gone for? Reason I ask if you had old petrol in the tank as it ages. ?When I go for a holiday I drain my tank before I go. Or did you fill when you got back.? Did?? someone drive the car while you were gone? Gave it a bootful. Goodluck.

Sounds like when my motor blew. Engine bay filled with smoke and there was oil everywhere, had 3 holes in the block. Jack it up and have a look and see if theres any noticeable damage. Is the car modified?
