Factory Rear Muffler Equivalent

I have a dented factory rear muffler and some minor cosmetic damage on the oval chrome tip of my BA XR6-T. Whilst the car runs fine, cosmetic damage bugs me and I would like to replace the muffler and its tip.

Ford wants $1,350 for a new muffler...

Can anyone suggest an aftermarket rear muffler that will:

  • fit perfectly to the car and the rest of the factory exhaust system without needing any modification
  • allow a car on standard factory tune to run as per normal
  • have a stock sound with stock volume
  • maintain the look of the oval factory tip

Also, if the system has to be aftermarket it may as well be replaced with a stainless unit (shiny).

Regards,

aa

Being that the cat is still in the system you should be able to put an aftermarket one in without it effecting the afrs enough to need a tune. Someone correct me if im wrong.

Yes, Pazzo, (BA) XR8 was identical and flowed well for a stock muffler.

I personally think it represents a good opportunity to upgrade, but then each to their own - wreckers, or Ebay, would be best bet for cheap stock replacement (be careful though as many fail with Ks as per mine)

Weiner, definately no need to tune on stock cat - after that restriction it makes no difference what system (or no system) is in place.

Thanks to all for all the help and information.

I am currently looking at a couple of options, including the possibility of a nice new shiny and very quiet (I hope) stainless cat back system.

Actually any advice on which are the very quiet and civilized cat backs in stainless, which do not require departing from the stock BA tune, would also be greatly appreciated.
