im going to remove both mufflers on a twin 2.5" system to see what it sounds like. took the cat out completely once with just a 4" dump as the tip. sounded mental and shook the house.

what is the point of the getting a venom cat pipe for $495 when you can just get a Venom cat and get the flanges welded on? it just seems like a much more expensive option...

are there any benefits of having a this "cat pipe" over just replacing the CAT?

Yeah will bolt in bolt out without the slightest fuss whatsoever, buying cat, then labour from exhaust shop might save you $50. Plus if you ever get done for a RWC just unbolt and in goes stock one.

This is exactly what I did as I didn't want to spend 500 bucks so I bought one of venoms 5" cats and got it welded in for a lot cheaper. Only trouble with this setup is that a lot of the times they don't remove the restrictive ring that sits in the dump pipe

im currently in the process of getting this cat: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250992961913&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&clk_rvr_id=356140142189

5" body, 100 cell. $230

cant imagine the labour to get flanges welded would be that much at my local exhaust shop. my mate haks from performance exhaust can do it in his sleep its that simple, and if I get done for a RWC I can still replace this with my stock cat no problems

assuming labour is $50-100... its not a massive saving but its something. each to their own

is it really that much of a restrictor?

Apparently my tuner had a customer come in with the same mods as me and only made 290 at the rears, they removed the restrictor and gained around 15rwkw
