helloo

ive got a BF2 xr6t ute 70,000kms

yesterday I was driving along, gave it some from take off and got a bucket load of axle tramp.

after that happened it sounded like my tyre was rubbing on the guard, like a scrubbing noise from the rear, 1 scrub per wheel rotation. inspected and nothing is touching and no damage to tyres.

it barley makes the noise during cruise but with deceleration its quite loud and obvious. also when accelerating the car shudders lightly so im thinking something towards the diff.

I have changed the oil in it not long ago and never made any noise before.

or could it have something to do with the wheel bearings?

anyone had this problem or have an idea what mine could be?

thanks

I see these quite regularly from excessive axle tramp, what I have done with my ute is fit our Tramp Rod kit, remove the original plates and rubbers between the diff housing and the springs and fit a solid base plate.

By doing this you will tighten up the rear and it will not move around and you will stop the tramp!

I also did fit a True Trac centre which gave me better drive, I have found that the ute now holds to the road better and even though it can fry 285 wide tyres with ease in 2nd and 3rd it is far more controlable!

I would post some photos but I always stuff that up, so if you email me I will send the photos of what I have done and you can post them if you wish.

How long has it been tramping???

I would also look into getting the leaves re-arched the opposite way so that the leaf eyes pass over the top of their pivot bolts.

This way they get less leverage and also maintain their arch better. Poly bushes will also help by minimising bush crush under load/unload.

Tramp I suppose could be defined as many quick successive clutch "in/outs". It will always find the weakest link.

The repeated impact of loading and unloading....you may as well hit it repeatedly with a hammer.

Don't know why the manufacturers (like Dana) make these diffs with such open areas in their cases.

Not surprised it broke there as on one side has full support and the far side only has 2 bridges to carry the load, and a bending load exerted by the pin in the middle.

Quite a difference in strength/load capacity of the carrier from one side to the other.

I would have a close look at the mating faces of the break. Beach or lap marks indicate initial failure point. Can you post some pictures of that? It may be harder to identify though, as it is a casting.

Give me a beefed up 9 inch any day. They have their problems also, but their is meat in all the right areas in the basic design.
