Ford quoted me upwards of $1000 and that's just for the first change (second oil flush was not included) but if your pretty handy and have access to a hoist, buy your own pan/filter, oil and a hand pump from supercheap and a workshop manuel and it can be done for around $

Had filter, pan, gasket and torx bolts. He also quoted me $550 for 20L of genuine ZF oil through them. Or about $690 through motospecs.I went with Gulf Western Syntrans - 20L for $154Got a local trans place to do the service, changed fluids (flushed converter), checked everything else under the car for $132. They used about 17L of the oil.Dave

kris Donating Members 94 Member For: 14y 7m 5d Gender: Male Location: melb Posted 22/07/11 06:02 AM Author Share Posted 22/07/11 06:02 AM cheers for the feedback guys..just bought a stock n/a xr6 recently (family car) and noticed that it acts a bit different to the fg turbo ive got in regards to gears changing up.. mainly from 3rd to 4th and more often than not going up hill, it sometimes revs about 2-3 hundred revs before engaging 4th- under light throttle.. (changes under 2k revs)the gear change happens without any clunks or bumps, and usually doesnt happen when I put the throttle down a bit harder ie: 2500 rev changes..bought the car off an old couple who have taken good care of it, its never towed and I doubt its had a hard day in its life, very good nick.I have had auto cars in the past that have had slipping problems (stomp the right foot and the tacho hits the rev limiter)... this feels very different to that scenario..I wonder if its as simple as incorrect fluid level??and being a non turbo with stock power, according to fords "sealed for life" recomendation.. should this need servicing?!anyone else experienced this type of behavioure with their zf??any help is appreciatedcheers

1600dave Donating Members 872 Member For: 13y 11m 14d Posted 24/07/11 09:56 PM Share Posted 24/07/11 09:56 PM I think that the non turbo ZF's have a lower torque rating, 450nm as apposed to 650nm in the turbo's and 8's.Mine was a bit rough on gear changes, had a bit of a thud. seems fine now though since having it serviced.
