Plus you can get a new fg f6 short here in melbourne for $3000 brand new. If it is the short buy it here in victoria and get your tuner to put it in, should be done for about $2000 to remove and fit motor. Talk about trying to screw people over.

What drugs are they on? That price is bloody outrageous and also how they pay for the facade of their flashy service centres :icon_ford: . It's really hard to find a good Ford mechanic and you pay through the nose whether you do or you don't. Just 100% proof that looks can be deceiving.

Well you guys are not going to belive this...

I picked up the F6 on wednesday from Ford, and took it straight to the mechanic who worked on it. He put it straight up on the hoise and had a good listen to it, and finally said, that he was CONVINCED its not the bottom end that's gone. so I left it with him, and he called me thursday arvo to say that he just found 2 torque converter bolts rattling loose in the 'box, and the other 4 were so loose, he pulled em off with his fingers! no loctight on them at all! so he inspected the bolts, they were still good, and put some loctight on them, torqued them back up to spec, and put the box back together with a litre of ZF Oil! I went over there this arvo and picked it up, and she drove fine!

He just saved me a possible $8600!! I just can't believe they went straight to saying that the bottom end was gone and I need a new motor, without even offering me the option of opening up the box to see if it actually was the flex plate! When I took it in there, I said to them straight up it was the bolts that came loose, and just because the FPV rep was there with his little scan tool, they voided the entire mechanical warranty straight away, and didn't want to touch it cause of the modifications done!! I would have been hapy to pay for the costs of opening up the gearbox, just to have some piece of mind. that's why I took it straight to Grenville, he knew straight off the bat that it wasn't the bottom end!

He said that he would like to think that if I had gone ahead with the repairs and when they pulled the 'box out, they would have found the bolts loose and told me, but I highly doubt that, given the current economic climate, they'll probably try and make their money as best they can..but I guess we'll never know!

Thank God for Grenville, he saved me a lot of hassle and heartache! that man definitly deserves a good bottle of something..

Also a big thank you to joel aka kartman, and everyone here on the forum who offered their insights as to what it could be, you're all aces in my book!:pleasantry:

If any of you are in perth, I owe you a pint! Cheers guys!!

your problem will most likely return, the bolt holes on the pressure plate will have the holes elongated, should have done it while the box was out to save redoing it later on

go back to ford and have a HUGE go at that dealer, they would have found that problem and still slugged you that 8grand telling you they fixed the engine.

Thank goodness, now you know the real cause of the problem!

I entirely agree with Pazzo xr6t's comment.

I am certain that you can easily make them look like fools because they utterly deserve it!

A first year apprentice by doing a physical check of the problem area would've seen the cause and yet they didn't consider

any other cause apart from the one they pulled out of their rear ends.

Remind the clowns that the internet can reach a great deal of people and that you may consider contacting the dealer principal or the Ford Motor Company......or at least remind them of sites like http://www.notgoodenough.org/viewforum.php?f=19

They almost gave you a heart attack with their "diagnosis",you should return the favour!

Yep, we're looking into it now, my dad's best mate is a lawyer and they're catching up tomorrow, so they're gonna have a little chat about what happened, going back on monday to Ford and gonna try and make them pay for the labour to R + R the gearbox, since the modifications CLEARLY had nothing to do with this issue, and it was all their fault for not applying loctite on the bolts. hopefully they'll play ball cause it wasn't a huge bill, so they should cover it!

Mate... Name and shame that dealer - Who was it?

That's seriously poor of them not to do an inspection if you requested it

Does the manual say to apply Loctite?

The dealer should've been able to diagnose the fault. No doubt about that.

I think the flex plate bolts coming loose on modified cars is reasonable common. I think they'd be able to draw a link between the 2 fairly easily.

It's a shame you've taken it to that dealer in the first place because they've failed to find and fix the fault, but they did find your car is modified, so they've probably warranty listed your car. That will make any warranty claim all that much harder.
