G'day. I'm just about to take the plunge and buy myself a new FG Turbo ute. I thought I'd do a bit of research so I got hold of as many Ford dealers email addresses as I could (I think close to 100) and sent out a blind email with my specs to all of them. As expected, a lot didn't reply, but I have had maybe 20 responses and I have been amazed at the variation in price - drive away from $45,000 min to $60,000 max. Obviously I'm looking at 3 dealers who came in around the $45k mark, but does this sound like a reasonable price for what I'm after?

This is the list of specs I sent them -

Vehicle:

2011 Ford FG Falcon XR6 Turbo Styleside Box Utility

Colour:

Viper

Transmission:

6 speed auto

Optional Pack:

XR Luxury Pack incl.

19” alloys

Leather trim seats

Premium audio with colour screen

Dual zone climate control

Premium sports interior

Extras:

Bonnet protector

Headlamp guards

Slimline weathershields

Front mudspats

Wheel lock nuts

XR carpet mats

Dash mat

XR scuff plates

Cabin tidy

Pollen filter

Fire extinguisher

Perimeter alarm

Go Technologies reversing camera

Canopy:

Carryboy S560 series (sliding window model)

I also found out during my enquiries that a Limited Edition Turbo model will be out next month (like the current non-turbo Ltd Ed, with sports bar, 18" alloys and leather) as well as a separate deal on the turbo ute with full luxury pack, which I'm thinking about holding off for.

But just curious to find out from those in the know, is $45k a reasonable price for the above specs?

Email enquiries are never going to result in great pricing. They need you in the dealership to sell you a car.

The dealers would've known you were bulk emailing and that's why some won't reply.

In theory all dealers should be able to do the same price.

My suggestion would be to pick your closest dealer, or closest few if there's that many close by and go and see them.

Funny thing is, I went to my nearest dealer (about 160km away as I'm out in the sticks) and went through the process of test driving and the usual wheeling and dealing and the best they could come up with was just on $50k. I thought at the time there must be a better deal out there, possibly with the city dealers as competition's tougher, but of the 3 quotes around $45k two were on the coast and the third, surprisingly, was another country dealer only another 200km or so from the one I first went to. So I'll probably stick with that one as he put his best foot forward first time around.

I done the same thing when I went shopping for a order built XR6T ute back in 2007, I had nothing to trade in just buying outright I got price range from $45k to $49k

one small dealership tryed to tell me iam waisting my time asking every dealership there best price

"we all buy from the one factory and all prices will be the same"

the same dealer also said

"people like me never end up buying new cars anyway"

6 or 7 weeks later I was driving out another dealership in my new ute that was $3500 cheaper

Yeah, I'm glad I did it. I felt like a bit of a goose I suppose, but if I'd just accepted the first quote from the local dealer without looking around I'd be 10 grand poorer right now.

Well, I ended up getting a driveaway deal with all the bells and whistles mentioned for $40k. I'm pretty happy with that.

so you paid 40k drive away with ALL the extras listed in your first post?

sounds like you got yourself a really great deal, enjoy!

bit of a worry that dealers are willing to go that low though. times must be tough for the falcon
