I am not a climate change sceptic, I think climate change is real. I just don't think we are causing it. The earth goes through cycles of Ice ages and warm periods, right now we are still coming out of an Ice ace. Climate is dynamic.

Alright climate change has been happening forever, it gets warmer and colder and it keeps going around. But don't think it was ever happening this quickly that you can really notice a difference in a generation. In some parts of the world it a lot more noticeable than others.

There was a report few months back on how Germany's wynyards used to be only in the south of the country but recently started growing further and further north due to warmer temperatures.

I have relatives in other parts of Europe where it used to be almost a common occurrence for water pipes to freeze in the walls if not properly insulated, not likely to happen lately...

And all of you saying how china is polluting more than us is a complete nonsense, *beep* have more than billion people of course they will pollute more, look at pollution figures per capita. Australia is in the 9th place (even the wasteful Americans are slightly better than us), China is in the 80th. So your average Chinese is polluting a lot less than you or me, even though they make most of the things we buy these days.

I don't know if this whole story about human created global warming is really true or not, (you have scientists saying it's not and you got the other scientists saying it is) but WHAT IF IT IS? How are all of you so sure it's not real? One of the main reasons you choose not to believe in it is because it will cost $$$ to do something about it.

And hypnodoc posting against articles means nothing, it would be just as easy to get pro articles and post them here, no one reads all that sh*t anyway.

The federal government's carbon tax will encourage Sydneysiders to drive their cars rather than catch public transport, NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell says.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has promised motorists will not pay more for petrol under the tax, but large commercial vehicles, including buses, will not be exempt.

"In a city in which we have congested roads ... the federal government's carbon tax scheme puts in place an incentive to drive a car, not catch a bus," Mr O'Farrell told Sky News today.

Schools, hospitals and other services would also suffer, he said, as the NSW government was set to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in dividends from the state's mainly government-owned black coal power generators, which have been denied compensation for the tax they will pay.

"It could take up to half of the dividends provided by the state energy companies to state government," he said.

"That means we are down a couple of hundred million dollars that would otherwise be going into schools, into hospitals, into policing and the other services that we provide."

You are correct many probably won't but people who are genuinely interested will. If you believe the rise in the cost of living will only be $10 a week I think you are kidding yourself. The one thing, apart from making a mess of everything, that Jooliars Govt is exceptional at is telling LIES.

I have just had a read of treasury's modelling and it has some considerable shortcomings due to the "scope" that the govt set for them....

It's not so much the $10/week, but the amount of funds that is being thrown at it. I am sure that this policy, will like their others, have many unintended consequences and distortions.

and had to this the lie about the tax cuts and tax free level.Yes it is going up but the sting in the tail is that the tax rate goes up aswell and the low income support goes down with it.The new tax rate will 19% base than than up to a top of 45 so she gives with one hand and takes more with the other.

I will go though the offical carbon tax doco and post that bit up and there is also mention that there will be an increase in the co2 emitted in australia under this tax.
