Is there anything that can be done about the driveline shunt? Any aftermarket product?

Easy fix, same as AU. Pull the diff out, re-shim it to correct tolerances and refit it. Also replace rubber coupling on front of shaft with a universal joint. Rubber coupling winds up and exagerates the clunk from the diff.

Correct tolerance......replace rubbers...on a NEW Diff OMG! Surely that can't be the solution in this case

Greetings. Its great to see people with a common interest in these new vehicles that Ford has created. I myself have a NAXR6 on order from late last year to be delivered mid to late Feb. My colleague has taken delivery of his NAXR6 beating me to the punch. That was however until the next day when with 800km on the clock the vehicle became an XR3 with the motor shutting itself down whilst on the highway. It appeared to be that the ECU had shut down however the dealer has determined that there are no malfunction codes in the ECU and all electronics are OK. The dealer has removed the rocker cover and determined that a number? of valve springs have broken. Ford have been contacted and by this Friday a new head should have been fitted. I don’t believe that this malfunction can be common after looking through other problems that have been posted, the closest existing problem appears to be VCT issues. However in saying this I havnt seen the motor since last Friday, lets see what happens from here.

Help! Driving home the other night from dinner, down one of the steepest hills on the Gold Coast, (wongawallan Drv) the engine cut out and I lost my brakes. Didn't think quick enough to try restarting the car, just pulled on the handbrake and slid for about 10meters before pulling up. Put it in Park then restarted no problem??? I was in 2nd gear letting the engine slow the car down, when it cut out. I rang Sunshine Ford the next morning and the service dude said he'd never heard of this kinda thing happening, I told him that I had read on here about people having this problem and needing a flash code or something, but he said there is no such thing and just keep an eye on it if it happens again etc etc.

What do I do??

I also noticed when under load in 4th it has a gurgling sound only sometimes. :(

These are some common faults already found.

1. Take the car for a test drive to check for any knocking, rattles, rubbing, leaks etc. (Main concern is the knocking in the diff and the diff seal found to leak oil)

2. Check Liquid levels (Once the pre delivery driver locked up a diff cos had not oil in it)

3. Check wheel alignment on flat road (right or left drift). (Very Common Problem)

4. Check that rotational tyres are on right side of car. (Have seen them on backards)

5. Check paint work for and defects, scratches even under the car. (delivery truck damage on and off tray)

6. Check you have correct spare wheel they will try and pull that one over your eyes. (eg Premuim brakes package check matching mag wheel)

7. Full tank of petrol you can only wish.

8. Check headlight alignment is correct. A couple of our cars lit-up paddocks etc., but not the road.

9. The front passengers door trim on my car had a small gap, about 2mm all along the rear edge of the leather where the handle met.

10. You also get plenty of spares. I found an extra nut under the bonnet near the ABS and a few clips under the carpet and back seat when I put the phone in. I guess the assembly line moves too fast to pick up anything you drop.

11. Paint under the doors? Many cars have no paint under there and is first place to rust out.

12. Check suspension? Some idiots forget to put nuts on the shockers and ball joints.

13. Brake fade common on the BA and pulsating sensation when braking due to warped discs.

14. Window control module on the drivers door has popped out, the locking clip is broken and will not go back in. Intermittently when I unlock the car the drivers windows goes down- this may be related to the module?

15. "High pitch noise" - Yes it sounded like a piece of plastic was hanging off the car making a whistle sound when travelling at 120-140km/h I occasionally hear a high pitch noise (sounds like a crook bearing in a fan). The noise is constant pitch and does not vary with engine revs. It will dissapear if I slow down or speed up beyond 140km/h.

16. Alternator whine can be heard through the stereo when playing DVD's. This noise cannot be heard through the headphones. Ford are looking into a solution but as yet do not have one.

17. Had a noisy heat shield come loose at 500km.

18. Driveline shunt as (manual box) tolerances not meeting specifications. (Auto not sure)

19. Airbag warning light is on all the time, something wrong with the SRS system

20. Loose drivers side door trim

21. The catch on the fuel tank broke on mine, leaving my fuel tank open and unlocked.

22. Cruise control surging and not calibrated.

23. Drinkcup holder flap ( lid) whatever you call it?...very flimsey...Broken hinge 1st hour!

24. When the cars temp was touching 40c loss of power and engine light comes on and the car is running in limp mode.

Could be a oil temperature problem and the fix in a ECU firmware upgrade.

25. Power Seat Switch faulty

26. Hood/Bonnet Release hard to open (alignment)

27. Throttle problem. Flashed the code into the ECU. Said that it didn't like it for some reason?

29. Been noticed the bolt screw that screws on the cover for the computer is unscrewing itself.. These are the screws that are meant to be put in a way that only a magician can take them out.

30. Also, paint on the inner door is cracking. So prepare yourselves there too...

31. Other things noticed were the placing of the Alarm above the fire proofing made the siren faulty as the heat was too much for it, that was replaced and relocated today, as well as the heater hose had to be tied away from the fire proofing too as that was getting hot too.. so hot that it was shaking after you turned the car off..

32. Fuel usage is still a concern but it could be dropping slowly.

33. Also she puffs a little smoke out the exhaust occasionally. No real pattern developing but after she has had a rest for say an hour, then you wanna pop out to the bottle-O there will be a small cloud produced. Grey\blue so it could be oil related. I thought it may be something to do with the cat fuming whilst hot then being purged by engine exhaust. Hmmm

34. I have a number plate light out and the console lid is noisy.

35. I've got 9500km on the clock, had the ECU flashed @ 3000km service and it still stalls due to hight oil temp.

36. Creaky steering when going slow ie reversing and drive thru's.

37. From a source in the castings plant FordMoCo the six cyclinder block has been found to have a small blow hole or paper thin walls in cyclinders 1,2 and 4. Not to worry though most of the engine blocks have been sleved which provides more strenght but the ones that haven't may be a problem in the future.

38. If you had the problem with lossing power to your dash/ICC there is also a fix coming for that too.

39.The rubber seal running along the bottom of the door, I opened the right hand side rear door to throw something in the back seat. Anyway, when I returned home, something caught my eye. As I shut the drivers door, the rubber was wedged between the right rear door and the side skirt

40. Problem with bonnet cable pulled out of the plastic handle all fixed but took a whole bloody day.

41. Possible Noise when the car is in neutral, stationary and then you rev it? Does the noise come from the left corner of the dash in a sedan or from the left rear of the cabin in the ute? It could be the control module for the window aerial. it was a problem right up until release but I havn't seen it yet in a production car. The noise will happen if the radio is on or off I think.

42. Window tint blisters

43. the car was delievered with 2 chips out of both front rims,

44. I found a piece of paper rolled up sitting next to the engine that had been on the verge of catching a light.

45. There was a loud knock coming from the rear of the car, it turned out it was one of the control arms holding the shocks in place was tightned up fully.

46.The plastic around the gear stick and middle console would get really really hot, almost unbarable to touch.

Note: This info is taken from current owners of BA series falcons. Many of these issues however may be a one off problem, as many have not been experienced by alot of our members.

Picked up my car on Monday, all fine except for the drink holder flap was a bit sticky after a few go's opening and closing it works fine now, I must admit my car did stall once one I pulled up at a stop sign the weired thing is that it was at 1am and it wasn't very hot. Apart from that every thing else is fine, hey I can think of worse things, (driving a chevy holden)

I'm guessing that your car is an early build one. I realise that a number of these problems ought to have been picked up during pre-delivery, but more importantly, they shouldn't have happened at the factory - at any time. Hopefully, they do not occur on more recent builds.

"Get it right, first time" is a much better philosphy to build cars (or anything else) by. Just ask, say, a Nissan dealer how many faults they see on Nissan Maximas at PD or, for that matter, by the 100,000km service. The likely answer is "none", or "only rarely". That explains why Maxima owners have a very high degree of satisfaction with their cars - I owned one recently, and I felt that way too. But definitely not about the Late model camira SS, which I replaced the Maxima with.

I am considering an XR6T, and these posts concern me greatly. I do not want a list of faults when I take the car back for services, and I particularly never want to visit the dealer between services.

I shall watch with interest.
