I had some many problems as well, the car currently 5000k's on it and I've already had water leak from the water pump repaired, disks machined, clunk in the front end, wheel alignment fixed twice and the steering wheel seems to be going off centre a mil each week, rear end of the car making a ticking noise when driving apparently some adjustment spring for the handbrake was repaired now has come back again a week later, my brakes are making a grrrrrrrr sound everytime I brake from speeds over 80k's must I go on and on.

Seriously guys, I'm having second thoughts about this XR6 Turbo, I have owned the car since late february and havent needed to wash the car because it keeps on going back to ford service so they wash it. Oh one other thing the bonnet and guard alignment is terrible and I dont want to get them to touch the bolts because once they do the car will look like it's been in a accident.

I'm cant keep on wasting my time arranging lifts to and from service all the time.

I must admit my service manager has been very helpful in arranging all the warranty repairs to be done, but I bought a NEW car with 15000km service intervals not every 500km.

I am seriously considering trading it in very soon if I cant get RELIABILITY!!!

That fills so good getting of my cheast :D

chrislak, I know how you feel. Mate, I'll admit, have been easy-to-fix problems but they should not be re-occuring so often. Bryan Byrt Ford Service and I are on a first name basis. They also know my 'rego' off by heart?

I'm having second thoughts as well. Almost 11,000 k's now and I can't help wondering what's the next thing to go wrong. I'm really starting to regret trading in the AU III VCT as we NEVER had a problem with her. 29,000 k's when we handed her over and she was perfect.

Wow this thread is a tale of woes, although it seems to be only the unlucky few.

I have had mine since the start of April and not a problem except for the dealer not fitting the factory sports wheel straight.

Since I have only done 3000 kms it seems I may be talking too soon.

Got a great idea for Ford in respect of the brake problems to perhaps get some cred back from disgruntled owners of XR6Ts. How about offering a subsidised dealer fitted premium brake upgrade? If they could do it for around the $1700 mark, how many takers would there be?

I guess we all should be glad that there arent any major drivetrain issues cropping up like piston slap, oil consumption and broken gearboxes and diffs.

Does anyone have information on the precise difference between the premium and standard brakes? Is the premium package only the Brembo 4 pot calipers, or is the disc different also?

Would appreciate finding out.

I find it incredible that ford has a disc rotor problem, how could something like that be so screwed up on such a fine car like the XR6T. I mean it's not like making disc rotors is a new thing in the car building business. But in fords defence the disc rotors are probably made by some other company, but even so the same basis should apply, how could they screw it up?!

Oil leak.

FRosty,

Did you find out source of your oil leak. Had my XR6T 6 days and then got smell of engine oil on hot exhaust after shut down.

No visible smoke but smell seems to be coming up strongest from betweenn rear of turbo heat shield and firewall.

Seems to be intermitent (or takes a long time for one drip of oil to hit hot exhaust.) No oil on ground. Happens whether local shopping or 110 on freeway.

Any clues please.

I've got a few minor problems, like the car heading to the left when braking in a straight line - just like my mates EH Holden - well not that bad! I also have a very slight vibration in the steering wheel that I would normally put down to a wheel balancing issue but I'm wondering if it's due to having 40 profile 18's - anyone else have this problem? Oh yeah, plus the driveline clunk you get when you change gears unless revs and speed are matched perfectly .

My XR6T (May 9th Delivery) has 18 inch rims. Had bad wheel vibration (enough to make sun visor shake in down position.)

Turned out all four wheels were out of balance (two had no weights at all)

Needed 90 grams, 74 grams, 72 grams and 45 grams to smoothen her out. Oh so smooth now !

In All fairness the dealer took the wheels off another car to give me "instant delivery on the car- all the other specs, premium sound etc were already in it as viwed on showroom floor. Consider myself real lucky to get ex showroom delivery. Perhaps something was lost in balance when tranferring the wheels to my car.
