No sound (except the exhaust, which is cool) but I like my music. Visiting the dealer tomorrow. Hopefully just a loose plug or something. In respect of front discs, I have had a couple or 3 C****dore work cars, and an EA and EF, and they all had some degree of brake shudder at one time or another. Machining is the way to fix it, or wait for something like DBA slotted rotors. The reason that new discs shudder is that the discs as supplied by whomever, are machined in a "green" casting state which means that they are not heat treated, so the applications of brakes during the first few kms take the casting stresses out of the disc and they will warp a bit. This is why some warp worse than others, and some not at all. A bit like running the engine in.I'm very happy so far. Plenty enough Mumbo and it handles and it looks good and........ Heard rumours that a 4wd 5 speed auto will be coming. even if it dont, I am getting one. However >:-( I took an acid rush one for a test drive up camberwarra mountain. After we had come back down (cruising on 110) came up to a round about. Switched from normal auto to sport shift, accellerated to go through the round about, and the bloody thing died. Nearly got rear ended by a truck, had to swerve off the road (no powersteer, they are bloody heavy) and try to restart the ting. sales guy was humbled to say the least . Restarted, booted, bout 5.9 0-100 with traction on. I still want one

Ha! We'll see. Am picking the car up today with the new DVD. And ther fixing the other warranty issues(suspension Knock noise in rear, Stinkin alarm wont chirp on lock and the exhaust rattle)I believe the "green cast theory" on the brake issue have given mine a fairly hard time and it hasn't happened again since machining. Yes, get your dealer to fix it, they say. Have already pointed it out , no no I get told it doesn't chirp. So back today saying I'm told it chirps, end of the day it doesn't chirp we've told you, I get told again, I ring customer relations and get this its an upgrade of the AU but sorry it doesn't chirp. Sorry, sorry! stuff them you buy something as advertised it should work as advertised, same goes for the alternator noise in the DVD which is now at least twice as bad as it ever was. Is there no mention in the users manual of the chirp and how to activate/deactivate it?

Guest maltesefalcon Guests Posted 17/04/03 12:40 PM Share Posted 17/04/03 12:40 PM (edited) Hello owners and fans of the new xr6 turbo,I'm a 1st yr apprentice machanic at ford.I'd come across this site from the back window on a red xr6 turbo which I was servicing.Just to point out a few things, all ba model falcons have a brake problem where shudder occurs after a few thousand k's. The problem is fixed by doing an on car brake machining service, if the problem persists return the car for service where the discs will be replaced.Another problem is a coolant leak, it's ussually from the water pump o-ring. The problem on the turbo model is access to the water pump. Compared to the normal 6cylinder engines, the mechanic has to get around the turbocharger, remove 2 heat shields and get around a larger exhaust. But in the end the job gets done and that's what counts. There is also a problem where using the remote to close and open the doors is faulty and opening or closing the windows occurs. This is due to a power window switch being made incorrectly. When in service the switch is replaced with a correctly functional unit. The problems of the new ba range are not all known as yet due to it being a relativley new model, but however it has a lot less problems so far than when the au was out.Cosidering that I've been a fan of "the general" for a long time and seeing that ford hasn't made a decent product for a number of years, it is fair to say that the ba will be a model greatly appreciated and be regarded with the likes of the cars of "yester-year" the original falcon gt ho's.To everybody, have a happy easter and safe motoring Edited 18/04/03 04:10 AM by richdave

Especially with the never ending brake issue..... And PLEASE tell us all...If, you have "ILLUMINATED" power window switches, does the key remote still cause problems??
