cdm Member 886 Member For: 22y 2m 21d Posted 10/03/03 06:48 AM Share Posted 10/03/03 06:48 AM (edited) Maybe it's not so bad after all, listen to what drive.com.au have said about the commodore.Holden's VT and VX series Commodores, however, take the cake. Australians just couldn't get enough of the curvaceous models, which hauled Expensive Daewoo back to No.1 while almost sending Ford Australia to the wall and forcing an early and massive makeover of the rival AU Falcon. But the VT/VX (1997-2001) were the subject of a stream of recalls to rectify engineering problems. In some early VTs, the seats could catch fire if the unprotected wiring harness for the seat lifter motor caused a short circuit.Other VT problems included a faulty sensor and diagnostic module in the airbag, which could have reduced the effectiveness of the restraint system; poor welds on brake pedal assemblies could have led to them breaking off.The '99 VT Series II had a bunch of safety-related problems. Incorrectly assembled steering gear could have caused unpredictable steering and a loss of control. The same model also had welding faults in rear trailing arms, which also could have resulted in a loss of control. These were replaced.Another recalled model is the Expensive Daewoo Special Vehicles GTS300 -- for an airbag warning light fix.Troubles with the Gen III 5.7-litre V8 introduced in mid-1999 continue, not that many owners are complaining openly.Acknowledging its customers are particularly passionate about the Gen III, Expensive Daewoo has been agreeing to rebuilds. But it says there have been complaints about only 2 percent of the engines. The Canadian-built alloy V8's significant thirst for oil, and noisy piston slap, routinely turn up on dealers' service sheets. Tighter-fitting Teflon-coated pistons with a revised gudgeon pin and ring pack are being fitted in major overhauls, for which Expensive Daewoo carries the cost of parts (about $3000) and labour ($1000).But Monaro, HSV, Late model camira and Statesman owners have an amazing capacity to ignore the negatives and concentrate on the positives. They love their big and handsome Holdens, occasional warts and all.In a four-year period, the VT/VX chalked up 12 recalls -- twice as many as the AU Falcon. Mitsubishi's slow-selling Magna was the subject of one recall in the same period; Toyota's Camry, none Edited 10/03/03 08:12 AM by richdave
HellionXR6T I'm Back!! Thats right, long over due! :) Lifetime Members 4,348 Member For: 22y 1m 28d Gender: Male Location: West Brisbane Posted 11/03/03 04:03 AM Share Posted 11/03/03 04:03 AM Well it's not a problem, it's a resolution (in a way).....YAY!!!!Friday 7/3/03Well I'm pleased to say I won the battle with "You know who" and my ugly paint problem on the spoiler and boot has finaly been fixed and man, WHAT A JOB. Colour, the amount of metallic specs, it was all matched almost perfectly. When the sun hits the edge of the spoiler, you can see more of a richness of the purple. From most angles you cannot pick up the difference at all. I would consider my eye one that's trained being a picky bast**d. I pick up on things most people would miss out. It's only noticable on a certain angle but man, ship this slight colour mis-match to Ford, duplicate it perfectly and man.....NICER VERSION OF "PHANTOM"!!! The "FALCON" and "XR6" badges have been re-applied in the wrong place. usually you have the badges centered exactly in line with the centre of the reverse light/blinker section of the rear lens. It's slightly lower so the bottom of the badges allign with the bottom edge of the reverse light/blinker section. It actually looks better this way. :D Go figure!!!If I could re-produce what I'm talking about, I would. Slightly impossible. :alien: Still have the "Capacitor" problem in the drivers side window where you unlock your car and the damn thing winds down automatically. Awaiting on a switch (as they just replace the whole switch) to be sent up from Melbourne, get this.......Backlog.It's slightly annoying, can live with it, just hope it doesn't happen too much when it's raining!!!Oh well, nearly there. Most hic-cups fixed now.
Redhawk ....Time to lay this fairytale aside...... Donating Members 2,657 Member For: 21y 9m 22d Gender: Male Location: In the Ferry on the River Styx, not getting out just yet! Posted 11/03/03 08:44 AM Share Posted 11/03/03 08:44 AM No Problems yet but then car is still on its way to WA! But very interesting read and a big help for me when I get mine. One story I did hear from a very reliable source. Guy here got his XR6 T missing......... the turbo!!! That would be one enourmous piss off!!!! Apparently it got to FPV with the wrong plumming (there's different plumming to make room for the snail) and got put to one side, then shipped out. So I'll be lifting the bonnet first thing!!One point to note when I took delivery of my EL XR6 the camber was way out of spec. Ford dealer said he put the whole camber kit in but my tyre dealer found they had only put the kit in on the drivers side, apparently the passenger side is a lot more harder to get at. Once the other side got put in no probs. FF tell me the camber on the barra is set in the factory with minimal adjustment (read...bugger all). So I'll be getting an independant alignment check as soon as I get the car. At $275 a boot not a thing to take lightly!! But can't wait to get it!!!! PURSUTE Member 48 Member For: 22y 2m 21d Posted 12/03/03 12:09 AM Share Posted 12/03/03 12:09 AM Well, when't to pick up the ute yesterday. Had a good look over and sent it back to the PD department.Found the piece of paper stuffed in the top rear of the exhaust manifold, found rubber bands attatched to what appears to be the stepper motor for the throttle as well as something below the TB that I couldn't see without pulling bits off. It also had that clip attatched to the oil pipes for the turbo. I asked them about it and they said they had never heard of it melting. Not entirely happy with the situation, but they were good about it, and I'm glad I had the approprite info up my sleave from this thread. Thanks!

Are you sure on this? The engines are built complete with turbo's and and shipped to the production line for installation. The cars only goto FPV for mods such as premium brakes, 18's and other options along with having the intercooler fitted and some other minor work l cant recall.
