ATT: FG ute owners

I am very interested in purchasing a hard lid for my Xr6t 50th ute, but I would like to know after it is installed, how hard it is to take the lid off and put it back on again.

EGR state that the lid is fitted with easy release hinges - But I would like to hear off someone with first hand experience how "easy" it is. :icon_ford:

To add to this, I was wondering if the remote central locking and any lighting would complicate things more?

We have a dog and it regularly gets carted from A to B so taking the lid on and off will be frequent.

Thanks in advance, Gus.! :prop:

I have 1 on my ute mate and is pretty easy to take off by yourself.. putting it back on is a f*cked by yourself I ususally get help from the missus to hold it up while I put the pins back in... really if you want to take it off and on frequently just stick to the soft cover IMO..

Thanks for the reply.

When the dog goes places, the Missus usually goes too - So I guess that would help with the lifting.

How are the hinges held in? Just a pin the gets pulled in and out?

Is the lid heavy or is it easily handled?

I agree the soft top is more practical, but I'm getting agitated with the buffeting sound it makes at 100klmph... and it looks like; :pooh:

PLUS: It would be VERY handy to actually lock my tools and target rifles in the back.

yeah the hinge pins are like 6-8mm rod that is bent and just slides in and then push down and holds it self there on the hinge bracket that is bolted to the ute... better off with 2 people to lift it as its just to wide to lift by yourself.. some ppl might be able to do it by them selfs but I am careful as I dont want to damage the paint if I droped it, plus I have a stuffed back lol.. yeah great for locking stuff up in the back that's for sure.. if you want a picture of the pin bracket setup I can get 1 for you mate.. cheers

That'd be great mate. :beerchug: I just wanna see if its something that I will get pissed off with and throw a tanty... or it'll be worth the effort.

They do look a lot nicer

Does yours have the remote lock? If so, without the lid on, do you have any waterproof problems with the latches?

Go for the lid, good investment no noise at speed, don't waste a heap of money buying it at ford, there are ute bits stores all over aus.they can get one direct sale from egr cheaper than ford.Ford wanted $3600 from me .I got it for $800 then $200 delivery.heaps better.Storage underneath a closed lid is reduced to about 45cm high.

I was meaning along the lines of the locking mechanism attached to the tub (if you get a hard lid installed). I presume there must be wiring connected to each side? Or is it like a brake cable or something? :beerchug:
