A blown and injected Hemi big block makes over 5000 hp....sort of makes the 1000hp from a Jap turbo pale into comparison

Ahh! Plonky,

You love those ol' Hemi's.....

And why wouldn't you. They are still the KINGS of the drag circuit.

But you won't see any 5000HP hemi's on the street though, will you!

Not for long anyway ;)

I'm not going to enter into a debate of Jap cars vs others.

Every manufacturer has had some real gems and absolute dogs.

Like I said in previous post. The fact that Toyota has mimicked some design cues from other marques has made it possible to enjoy some realistically priced performance cars today. Instead of paying some exorbitat amount of money to make a design from scratch, and then realise that the public think its crap ( and I'm going to bear a bit of flak here , aka the AU Falcon...) they have learnt from previous designs that if they take their cues from established successful marques, they'll more than lilely succeed where it counts. In the showroom.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not sh*t canning any manufacturer. I'm just saying that its a tough market place, and when you try a radical new design its a huge gamble.

The truth of the matter is that the Japs have excellent engineering facilities, work ethic, and quality control (although its not as good as it used to be QC that is)

Its a sad fact though, that they are not very creative in developing innovative and successful new designs. But that;s the the rest of the world's advantage.

Christ, imagine if the Japs were good at everything.

C'est la cie . Opportunities for everyone to find their niche in this ever shrinking global workplace.

cheers

Plonky,

Off topic, been meaning to ask you.

I've got a Gold Tudor Oyster around 74 vintage That was presented to my Dad as a work gift. Very good working order after I spent a couple of hundred on it.

And an Omega (I Think Seamaster?) but it is the electronic that I believe is not very collectable.

Another older and scratched Tissot Cronograph around 69 vintage.

Dont want to sell them but would appreciate a critique.

Macka.

Macka

A Tudor is ALWAYS worth good money and is valuable. I would suspect it is a President style watch with an automatic movement.

I'm a 'military/diver watch' type of man but I can appreciate a nice stylish mans dress watch.

Omega Seamaster - is it a round bezel divers? They are just beautiful. If it is the modern James Bond style bezel, the quartz movement is just as collectible as the automatic or chronograph movement.

I'm a huge Omega fan but still haven't found the 'right' one.

I'm actually in the process of searching for some late 60's/early 70's divers and a Tissot chrono is one that I'm looking at. I just love those distinctive shapes that were very popular in that period.

Sounds like you have some real beauties there.....definitely don;t sell them as they are all collectible!!!

Turbotom

You and I both thing very much alike and I certainly appreciate and respect the ability of the Japanese to bring an idea to perfection!

Don't misunderstand me....not everything Jap is crap...I just think that too many people have the naivety to believe that the Japs are the ONLY ones who can make the best from the least.

It's just that the examples I have used (Toyota and Lexus) are a cynical marketing exercise purely designed to gain market share, not advance the automobile.

The Toyota range in Australia has the most boring bland looking pieces of crap on sale in the country. Whitegoods on wheels was the perfect description of these cars. Why don't we get the cars that Toyota have in Japan over here. Are they worried they might offend the boring old people who usually buy their cars. In Japan they have Supras, Soarers, Chasers, Aristos and the Mark II. All turbo powered rockets. Not my cup of tea but better than boring Camrys and Avalons and hairdressers cars like the Celica and MR2.
