A recent thread on Toyota in the V8 Supercars section got me to thinking about how some Ford/Expensive Daewoo types loath Toyota.

So do I.

I think Toyota is the automotive equivalent of a virus.

Don’t get me wrong, this is not a racist issue. In my previous job, I worked for one of the worlds largest Japanese Electronics Corporation’s and I have nothing but the uttermost respect for the Japanese people and their culture.

Toyota are just rip off artists.

Mitsubishi makes a 4WD begins with P ends in O. A few years later Toyota releases a clone, begins with ‘P’ ends in ‘O’, Pajero becomes Prado, soon Verada becomes Vienta.

Many years earlier a car similar to the Land Rover also starts with ‘Land’ ends in ‘er’. The Land Cruiser is born. What is the most popular Celica ever, oh yes it’s the ‘Mustang’ shape from the late 70’s.

Now the Klunker sorry Klugger looks and Spec’s up so much like a Subaru Forrester it defies belief.

Don’t get me started on the 6 year old, US ugly assed clunker, which when superseded Toyota shipped the tooling to Oz and flogged them off as the most Australian car since the P76, but fortunately Australians are not so easily fooled, no Avalons for us.

Then there are the spin off Lexus that either look like 3 series BM’s or Merc’s.

My greatest worry is that if Toyota become the most dominant manufacture in the world and puts their competitors out of business they will have no one to copy cars and their names from, and we will still be driving the same car for decades, just look at the Landcruiser ute. It hasn’t really changed for 18 years. :banghead:

Sure their cars are well thrown together, but they lack spirit and are nothing more than fine tuned versions of a car someone else released a few years earlier. White goods on wheels cars for A to B people.

They spend more on marketing than Holden, convincing us the cars they sell are ‘theirs’.

What do you expect from TOY MOTOR company.

Toys are usally a copy of something real in the world.

Look at the targo classed as the people mover well I am one of eight kids and we had the real deal back in the late 60's early 70's and that was the VW combie.

But toyota think they invented the people mover.LOL

Toyota have captured the minds of the mindless, those without imagination or passion & run with it. Every time I drive my bosses Camry Wagon(I won't put somethings in my boot,) & I listen to John Laws (a former DJ gotten lucky) inciting all to buy Toymotors, I list all those I know that drive Toy's & thank my lucky stars that I'm not one of them.

Toyota drivers, you do stick out in a crowd!

As for the sportivo... HA!

Myfriends dad drives one and he's a di<k! My friend says it's really good. BUT! A body kit and a cheap set of mags won't do nothin to make the car go faster, or improve it's reputation for being japcrap
