Hi Guys

New to the forum, I have owned a xr6t ba ute for some 4-5 years now and the turbo packed it in because I got lazy and didnt change the oil screen so im wondering my best course of action,

1: Rebuild the turbo

2: Highflow the turbo or

3: Buy a new turbo

and if it comes down to buying a new turbo where would the best place to buy one.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Cheapest option would be to rebuild but if you want big power then the above turbos would be the go.

A rebuild can cost anywhere between $800 and $1800 depending on who does it and how much work needs to be done to repair the turbo.

for both turbos I understand you will need to get a mod plate for the factory exhaust manifold, external gate and a different dump to suit the external gated turbo. Have a word to Rapid Chris has an external gated turbo where the external gate is on the housing, using a mod plate for the manifold and then plumb the rest up.

Thanks Guys for your help with this problem.

I have done some research and have found that turbo logic in port kembla wollongong will rebuild my turbo for $700 (that's right $700) very happy,

Now im wondering what are the pro's and cons of high flowing a rebuilt turbo and should I buy a aftermarket oil screen line, (selling line on ebay for $180)

to prevent the same prob happen again?,

do a aftermarket oil line really do that much?

High flowing it will allow it to make more power but you will suffer a little with less bottom end. You should be getting the wategate ported as well.

The after market oil supply screen is a must I believe. This will allow you to clean it on a regular basis to prevent blockage. You should also be changing your oil and filter every 5-7000ks.
