I can't justify leaving a car all day for a 5 minute procedure.Regarding wrapping the key in aluminium foil, I'm sure you could wrap it around lots of times, but leave it loose enough so that it can slide off the head. Then just slip it over when you pull the key out and go to put it back in.I'm waiting for someone to confirm the steps I posted a few posts above before I try it! I don't want to somehow break the only single working key I haveive tried that with a bit of alfoil 3 layers thick.. I think the signal gets out on the end where it meets the ignition barrel, you cant cover up that end too much otherwise the bloody key doesnt go into the barrel all the way and wont turnfirst key - acc, second key on?or first key - on, second key onor first key - acc, second key acc Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/75683-programing-new-key-melb/page/3/#findComment-1121057 Share on other sites

Coffey Ford in Dandenong did my BA a couple of years ago, fitting a new barrel and programming 2 keys ( I supplied the parts ) and only charged me $120 after quoting me $80. Ram locksmiths wanted $100 so I went with the cheap quote and got screwed by fraud. At least they did my sunroof recall and washed the car for nothing. I believe it takes about half an hour for them to do as they cant program the key the moment they plug in the WDS machine as this is to slow down anyone trying to steal a car. The foil template I used works (as in it won't recognize the key) but it will never go into 'key program' mode. Any other option before I call up fraud? You'll have to ask them. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/75683-programing-new-key-melb/page/3/#findComment-1129109 Share on other sites

weaves Member 6 Member For: 13y 9m 12d Posted 03/08/11 07:02 AM Share Posted 03/08/11 07:02 AM I just spoke to the local locksmith, If I supply the key he will program the transponder and cut the key for $91.00. He also said he can supply genuine Ford flip keys, cut and programed for around the 160 mark (he was driving as I spoke to him, and couldn't verify this). The $91 for cutting and programming seems rather steep to me, so I'll shop around on sunday and see what I can come up with. weaves Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/75683-programing-new-key-melb/page/3/#findComment-1129274 Share on other sites
crazyxa Member 84 Member For: 18y 1m 19d Posted 09/05/13 12:00 PM Share Posted 09/05/13 12:00 PM To confirm the foil will in fact block a transponder you need to cover your existing working key and then confirm it will not start the car. If the car starts you failed and need to better cover the transponder section. As for wether you can program a second key with only one other key I doubt it very much! Here is the issue as I see it. The car will only ever recognise the last transponder codes saved. Hence there is no point in trying to foil cover the new unrecognised key while holding the only recognised key/transponder next to the barrel in part two of the key recognition procedure. The Ford smartsheild will just think you have reinserted the same key again. Inversely there is no point in trying the working key again foil blocked and holding the unrecognised key/transponder next to the barrel. The smartsheild will not recognise the transponder code on that anyway.I am in the situation where I have an FG with only one key.I have now just purchased a genuine second hand key and intend to re-blade it.Get this:Ford new blade cost = $120 Mr Minit = blade and cut $35Courtney and Patterson Heidelberg = $120 to program.A mate at another dealer yet unnamed = $65 to program. So I think I will give Mr Minit a try and confirm the key actually opens / locks the doors and glove box before touching the ignition. Then off for a $65 program.PS. I also called a few lock smiths for prices almost all will not cut an eBay blade only a Ford genuine blade with an invoice to prove authenticity.Apparently there have been issues where aftermarket blades jam in ignitions. That said many on the forums have had no such issue with eBay keys and or blades cut at Mr Minit.Secondly apparently some locksmiths cannot program the smartsheild on genuine Ford transponder keys. Only aftermarket transponder chips can be programmed. -------------------------------------------------WHERE THE FOIL TRICK WORKS:The foil trick actually works well is when you have two working programmed keys and you want a 3rd yet uncut key programmed. further you may want to code a mates or your brother, mother, dad, sister or friends FG key transponder. So on the third pass of the programming procedure you foil cover your second key insert it and then hold the 3rd uncut key (your brothers lets say) key to the barrel. You now have a spare transponder coded. If you ever lose one of your two working keys you just re blade this third spare key and you again have two programmed keys. Or if you choose to code your brothers key then you buy an eBay key get it cut and then use your brothers key in step two with the foil on key on your surviving key. Remember you need to mimic inserting the second transponder key so this is where you would utilise your brothers key. Then program the eBay key you got cut. Easy! And no worrying about paying Fraud to program a key.As has been stated in a previous post you need to remember that key/transponder does not get coded by the car/smartsheild. The car/smartsheild codes itself to match the transponder imbedded chip/code. Thus one transponder could be coded to 1000 cars it just would not turn the locks. However paired with a cut key blade per car it will start each car. Mr_4.0 Member 1,096 Member For: 14y 3m 12d Posted 09/05/13 01:36 PM Share Posted 09/05/13 01:36 PM IDS can program the car to only require 1 key to add a new key to the system. Its can be left like that permanent if you like. But good luck getting a dealer to change that for you. I know someone who can/will but if anyone is interested, take it to PM.
