I've got a fujifilm hs10 for 400 bux that has taken fantastic photos on par with a Dslr. Its all about the person behid the camera. No point buying an slr if you stick it on auto. Will post some photos tonight when I get on the pc.

Don't wanna start an argument... But a point and shoot doesn't come close to a DSLR...

DSLR in green mode will take a better shot then a point and shoot. Sure composition defines what's in the shot... However, image quality isn't comparable...

Being able to modify iso, aperture, all of your colour balances, having 19 points of focus, better lenses etc... All plays a part... You can't get anywhere near as much bokeh with a point and shoot and low light shooting is sh*t and grainy... At least green mode can modify iso and aperture sufficiently to counter the spastic behind the camera!!!!

400 dollar P&S. Pictures say a thousand words.

I have full aperture, shutter and manual priority modes aswell as the option to shoot in RAW format for easy editing. My P&S has a 24mm-720mm lens.

Sure I cant shoot much past iso 800, that just means I have to use a tripod with longer exposures.

I know it will never be a DSLR im just saying P&S have come a long way.

Indeed pictures say a thousand words but the eye says more. Agreed P&S has come a long way but really when you're looking for sharpness, DOF, colours etc there is no comparison.

The instant wow factor when you look at a photo from a P&S is great, then when you see the same shot taken with a DSLR it knocks you off your feet.

I have a D5000 for sale at the moment with all the gear in practically brand new condition. I'd say give one a try and see how you go. There's a big difference.
