Guys I went for a drive tonight and I'm assuming its just a relay but someone might be able to shed some light on prob...

So headlights on, go to indicate and blue instrumentation light cluster drops out completely and radio iluminates brightly like it does in the day time.....you could hear the contacts in the relay fluttering, only way I could get them back on was to give the indicator stork a bit of a flick and they would come back on and radio lighting would go back to night time mode (very technical description haha)

Any help appreciated thx

Yeah unfortunately I was thinking it might have something to do with the stork.....oh well so has anyone fixed this before??? does the steering wheel have to come off or what, I'm happy to fix it myself if it can be done...

also check the multi plug. could be as little as a poor connection. dry joints (solder) are easy to spot but if not too confident, just take the whole unit to an electronics shop, they will touch them up for you for a couple of bucks. easy to do yourself if you have a decent soldering iron setup. worth having in the man cave ! :)

see what they look like.

(poor connection from copper board to wiring which the solder is the link. )

you dont need any new solder, just heat old stuff till it flows onto wire properly. best use a flux pen as that is the lubricant(touch joint prior to heating ) that helps them both bond to each other. :)

Righto culprit found.....

After removing shroud from around the column and checking the connections on the backs of the contact points I then removed the plastic backing from the indicator stork where the wires grove up to the switch (auto, park, lights)this is what I found...

As you can see the red wire has been cut in two there really isn't enough length in the wire when the indicator stork is positioned to the left it stretches the wire and in turn becomes pinched up a bit.....so all soldered up now and fixed....
