ford started specifying 5w30 on the AUs an an energy saving oil, they had problmes with leaks & oil consumption & moved towards 10w 30 I think. I recently spoke to my oil rep for the comapny we buy our oil from & he told me not to waswte my money on synthetic oils unless I am doing track time. the secret is oil changes not type, if you change it before it becomes contaminated should have no probs. synthetic's biggest advantage is in extreme conditions & longer lprotection for longer time, I would prefer to change my oil more often & save on the oil costs, I am using 10w30 or 40 ( cant remember) which is from a melbourne comany named peak that distribute caltex oils, have used their oil for years & know & trust it

I agree totally with the above post, synthetics offer some advantages at start up and at high temp, but really not much for Mr and Mrs street driver.

If you want to be nice to the engine, change every 5,000 klms.

My engineer of a brother-in-law swears that filters are a waste of money - the argument being change the oil regularly and he filter doesn't get into a condition that impedes flow.

But for an extra 15 - 20 dollars every 5000klms?

I would say whatever the factory put in it at fill time. As a rule, we dont change the oil at pre delivery time, and every other dealership I know dont either. However, Bryan Byrt's may have changed your oil, but I strongly doubt it.

All the lube stickers we put on the cars at PD time specifies Magnatec at service time.

Hope this clears things up.

Yep, Cro's right up until August FPV were using Mobil 1 0w40.

They have recently changed to a Caltex equivalent, not sure of the type, but synthetic of course.

Actually Castrol, Mondie.
