Just curious as to what weight the synthetic oil is they use at the dealers for the Boss 290's with the view perhaps that one could use this oil in their T cars motor on their next service? Again maybe our Ford tech's or Oil man could enlighten us?

AFAIK FPV use 0w40.

I've been running this in my car for 7500kms now, and I think I'll change back to 15w40, just to see if I can spot the difference.

Yep, Cro's right up until August FPV were using Mobil 1 0w40.

They have recently changed to a Caltex equivalent, not sure of the type, but synthetic of course.

Peoples I'm not keen on changing Oil brands & weights on these engines as they must get used to a particular oil.

My Dealer uses Magnatex 10w/40, which I use in my interval 7500k changes such as the one I performed on Sunday having now done 22,500k's.

I'll be the first to admit I know nothing about oils.

Over time past I've read countless posts on changing the oil in the T or what oil to use in the T etc etc. Ford recommend a 15W-40 oil is used in the XR6T so can someone for once and all explain to me why everyone is changing to different grades and brands? What wrong with using the recommend grade? And I'm assuming that the brand is a matter of personal preference rather than anything else, no? :ermm:

Plus alxr6t,

should one change from mineral to synthetic in an engine designed to run on Mineral?

My fear of changing harks back to a friend filling his turbo torana up with Peter Brocks Mobil 1 when it was 1st released. By the time he got from Brissy to Fishermans wharf (Gold Coast) his dipstick was dry as a nun's. From then on I've stayed with mineral & am still of the opinion that Pennsylvanian Oil, ie Pennzoil is the best mineral oil going around & that comes from years of the tacho being in the RED zone. However my "T" was delivered with Magnatex & will have nothing else put in it whilst I own it.

If you picked your car up new, it wouldnt have magnatex in it, it would have whatever the factory put in it! Magnatex was probably on the lube sticker stuck on your windscreen. We certainly dont change the oil in the T's as part of Pre delivery.
