Hi all,

just wondering if there are any BA XR8 websites around that are similar to this website??

I cant shake the thing from my mind and are considering a purchase, any owners here like to comment? Are they that much slower than the xr6t? How do they compare against an ss?

Anyone?

Cheers

Mate,

I have a BA XR8, and it is in no way slower than a XR6T, the T might get off the lights a bit quicker but the XR8 will quickly run it down...How do I know? Done it several times now. Dont forget all the mags did their comparisons with a run in XR6T and a brand new XR8.......Noticed how they havent done it lately??? If the XR6T is better than the XR8 how come T owners are paying big bikkies to get the bonnett bulge???? And Ive never met a cylinder Ive never liked....the T is missing 2...

The BA XR8 makes the SS look like a FJ Holden, in every facet.

I too have an XR8 , OCT 2003 build amd I love it, just past 1000k;s and is getting better all the time. For me its quick enough. hair still stands on the ends when the foot goes down and the sound well nothing compares.

Feel just like the ford v8supercar racers when you look out over the bulge, like you do when the in car cams are on.

Just my view

Cheers

ozzyjim, I'm sure that you and any other xr8 owners are more than welcome at this site. There is a Ford section on here where you can make posts about the xr8 (I think there are already some threads on there about the 8).

The XR6T and the XR8 are virtually identical in terms of speed. I think that the XR6T is so popular because it's cheaper. That's what did it for me anyway.

I know that SS's are no problem for my XR6T, so I would assume that it would be the same for an XR8. Both cars are great and if you get an XR8, I'm sure you will love it. :hiwelcome:

Teza,

1. They have done it lately, I think it was Motor this month: run in XR8 - 14.3, SS with very low Km's - 13.9. The XR8 has improved by a couple of tenths. XR6T was listed as 14.2 so they're almost the same.

2. Maybe 'cos they think the T is better but like the look of the bonnet.

3. Every facet except it's quarter mile time and it's more sporty raw feel that some people prefer.

In Motor they said the XR8 felt fasted but had low tread rears after Bang For Your Bucks would be interisting to see times with new tread.

Would this effect the time that much ???

Also parents XR8 has hit 12,600K's still not one problem and no sighns of one :)

I still can't get over the fact that MOTOR still refer to the SS as having done a 13.9 sec quarter.

Michael Taylor has explained this before: It was a once off, a freak time that Jonathon Hawley did and has NEVER been repeated.

There were reps from Expensive Daewoo there at the time and none of their test drivers had ever repeated such a great time.

True, the car is obviously capable (right conditions in mechanical (car) biological (driver) environmental (track & atmospheric conditions)

and in effect it is not false advertising to say that the SS has done a 13.9 sec 400 m time.......BUT (and it's a 'BUTT' but bigger than Oprah) it is not a consistent, achievable time.

Ford engineers/test drivers have reportedly got under the 14 sec mark consistently for the GT....but again it is purely down to the pre-mentioned mechanical, biological and environmental conditions.

The Turbo (because of the broad torque band) is obviously much easier to launch and thus has achieved low 400m times early in the release of the car.

The XR8 is a very quick car and when it was first released it was timed with the manual gearbox. All of the above variables came into play as well as the knife edge situation where it is either too much throttle or too little. The auto XR8 is a consistent 14.4 runner. So is an SS Commodore.

The 400m time published in the rear of MOTOR doesn't always tell the full story but it is certainly in the interests of General Motors Expensive Daewoo to have a 13.9 sec 400m time published for all the punters out there that believe that a VYSS will consistently pull 13.9 sec 400m.

Don;t believe everything you read...I drive these three cars constantly and each has good points and bad points

The perfect HWP car would have the bottom end/standing start acceleration of the Turbo, the mid range of the XR8 and the top end of the VYSS as well as the braking capacity of the XR8 (Premiums), the handling of the XR range but the damper control and stability of the VYSS at high speed, the seats of the XR range.

If all VYSS's did a 13.9 sec I would be on a different forum LOL

Ok, at dads work, a few guys have XR8's and one guy has a VY ss.

The guy with the SS drove the xr8 and now wishes he got one instead of the ss. He said the XR8 handles a lot better and is much more smoother. He also said that there is a lot more class about the XR8, and the interior is finished off a lot better than the SS.
