Hi,

My xr8 was lowered before I bought it and I am having issues with the front guards hitting the tyres.

on level ground lock to lock it juuuust makes it under the guard. but if im going up ANY driveway whilst turning it scraped the crap out of the guard and my tyre. I have rolled the guards back in once before but the same day they got pushed back out (actually on the first drive lol)

the rears sit just inside the guard on the stock 18's with 245/34/18 on it. and the front I cant put my finders above the tyre, do you think its a ssl front and sssl rear setup?

I have two pics, the first is of whats happening to guard, and the second is the only one I have of the whole car to TRY show how it sits.

I need some ideas how to stop the guard rolling out. it doesnt make for a comfortable drive knowing im ruining the car over every driveway and speed bump.

if you want a pic from side on ill get one 2morro when dads car isnt in the way

That sure is making a mess of that guard, won't be long until something bad happens. I'd be lifting it until you find a solution.

roll your guards and the problem will go away. im running wider rims with aggressive offset, and lower, with no issues at all since rolling guards.

Was expecting it to be lower. Get the fronts rolled properly and it'll fix it. Happened in my old sedan and had then rolled more than they were from factory and never had another problem.

more camber.........

better rolling of guards........

be more careful turning on sloped surfaces.....

skinnier tyres......

they would be my suggestions...

mine is that low at least at the front with 20's on the front aswell. if I turn up driveways I can scrub fairly easy so I just take it easy. never had it turn the lip inside out like that. few people I know in my area with ba's even lower than mine, with 20's also, dont have issues as they simply drive slower when turning and careful where their driving. I have never seen that happen over speed humps either.

thanks guys for the replies.

I do try and be careful when going up driveways, on my home driveway it doesnt matter what angle or speed I try, at half lock it always touches.

im going to roll the guards, is this something worth getting done professionally? and what places to this type stuff?

ill also add some camber to.

off topic, but, I really miss my xr6t, I like the sound of the full exhaust on the 8, but compared to my 6 (even when it was stock) I swear it doesnt have anywhere near the balls. especially pulling through 2nd from a low speed, just no pull till just under 4k, lucky its only temporary

I've found experienced panel beaters to be better than these " gaurd experts". My fronts cost me a slab so don't expect it to cost much either.

An experiences panel beater knows to look out for the tops of the quarters pulling in or any distorting, how far to push it properly etc.

This happend to me a few months back.. Except mine was way worse.. mine fully flipped out, had to set a pair of pliers loose on it just so I could drive the thing.. I've put in new shocks and changed the springs from SL's to L's.. Havent had a problem since, and can drive with more confidence now, not sh*tting myself at every bump etc.. You could roll your guards but maybe raising the front abit would be better..
