Pondering A Fg F6.

Hi

I've been lurking for quite a while and recently been thinking about a new F6.At the moment FPV/Ford are having a special

price of $59,995 driveaway.I would prefer a manual,but was wondering if any current owners have an opinion on the manual gear shift

eg are the shifts smooth and can the gears be easily slotted in when shifting quickly....etc?

The auto doesn't have paddle shifters..?

I was quoted a price of $53,833(no options)on the road for a brand new F6( I am able to get a Ford discount).

I drive a XR5(reflashed) so if I end up buying one I'm sure it is going to be quite a difference.

I assume it has reasonable handling?

My local dealer has an auto F6 in stock so if I'm able to get a test drive I will also need to see whether the F6 can be driven in and out my garage

without taking the wooden pole that holds up the verandah with me :yikes:

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated. :VB Beer:

Hmm, yes they are good value at the moment. FGII maybe not far off so I don't know if buy right now period to be honest. And, I'd go the GS anyway so I'm probably not much help, lol. The manual aint a slick shifter until you upgrade it (mal wood kit) so I'd be going auto. They are a good thing mate but like I said if a series II isn't far away, I'd be wanting that.

Go drive both the Auto and Manual then go from there. As far as pricing is concerned dealers will want to be off loading series 1 cars but I am not sure you will see a noticable difference in the series 2, so now well may be the time to grap a bargain. Further, the general view is that the GS is better optioned with the manual, and as far as I know this is the same gearbox that is in the F6. Also better resale with manual. Although, these turbo cars do benefit from the Auto tranny in straight line performance applications. Cheers

Gs feels better with a auto. Ild prefer the manual turbo combo.

If you want a new car now there's good savings, it'll probably be another 10k for fg2.

I have a manual F6 Ute and find the shift fine. The driveline is clunky at low speeds however, you can drive around it though. If you like to just cruise and drive without thinking about RPM, shift points, throttle openings etc, then it may not be the right combo for you.

The FG F6 manual box is pretty good stock.. I had a VE GTS manual with a RIP shifter and the F6 box is by far better in standard form than the GTS. I don't have a problem fast changing so for me I won't be looking at a mal wood shifter. Ford have done well putting this 6spd in the F6 I am happy with it!

that's a good price for the F6, I payed 10k more than that in 2010 to get what I wanted... then added my options on top of that!

Be prepared to changed the suspension as the stock soft stuff isn't much chop.. I also changed a number of my diff bushes to reduce the tramp I was getting between shifts. Apparently stock clutch is good for 360rwkw's but I made mine a little unhappy with stock power testing out some the launch control ;)

Enjoy the test driving, after you drive both you will know what transmission to pick

That's interesting, I would have thought it might be the other way around. I have a BA F6 manual and losing boost between shifts is bit of a downside of the manual - even if you are really fast you still lose some (dunno if the FG has some clevery tricks to avoid). But the F6 in auto has no such problems, it can keep the boost up during the changes.

Because the supercharger shouldn't need to spool up I figured it would suit the manual well?

I've driven them both, and that's just my opinion.

I've also owned and driven quite a few b series, and my manual xr6t was better than auto standard, and now modded even better again. But manual isn't for everyone. Hell, alot of blokes can't even drive them. But the driving experience in a manual turbo feels so much better.

The GS in manual though.... Just didn't do it for me.
