Goodyear Vs Dunlop

Guys - heaps of good discussion around tyres here and was keen to get some thoughts from the group....

I'm looking at some new tyres and was originally looking at the stock Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX (245/35/19") and when I've asked for a quote to get them replaced I was suggested the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 (245/35/19") for about $500 each fitted/balanced. I dont have any experience with these tyres however I have seen some good write ups about them.

Saying this, if I'm going to pay $500 a tyre, is there anything else in the price range which represent better quality/value?

At that price you can buy anything! Try tirerack.com if you're after premium tyres. For 500 I would want some seriously good rubber.

Falken FK452 rated half a point less than the Goodyears in a out of 100 rating recently, but are $100 a tyre cheaper. Dunlops where three or four further down the list and also the most expensive. In reality, if I were to bin the car, it would be because of a stupid mistake on my part and not a half point in tyre rating so the $100 a tyre saving won out for me.

both are sh*t and wont grip ask anybody running good rwkw

look at toyo t1r or kumho ku31 cheaper and grips

I have Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics (but the first generation not the second generation) and I loved them - I think I paid $190 each fitted and balanced - but I got the ones Made in China, not the ones Made in Germany. Still, they gripped like anything and gave me a lot of confidence in the performance of the car. Only thing I have about them is that they have a short life. I'm about to replace my rears with Michelin Pilot Sport 3's after reading about them in Wheels June edition. My rear Eagle F1's lasted less than a year before they were down to the wear mark rib in the grooves. I think some of the reviews on the Eagle F1s warned about short life though. But didn't believe them until I saw it with my own eyes Fronts are still good, almost like new - so I will keeping them on the fronts

+1 for the KU31's. Haven't tried the Toyo t1r's though.

Had the previous tyre, 451's and loved them ! stick like sh*t to a blanket, great wet tyre...452's are the successor.

F1's have been my weapon of choice with subaru's. amazing grip whatever !

Well, I've only had the Michelin Pilot Sport 3's on my rears for 3 days now. I think the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics had more grip. I just remember it being really hard to spin the tyres when I first got the F1s but I can do that reasonably easy still with the the PS3s. Ahh well, early days yet. See how they go on the South Gippy cruise this weekend.
