I got 12 quart bottles of Mercon SP XT6QSP coming from the US, shame sh*t Ford will stick in your box. All up cost $222 delivered, so roughly $20/L for the genuine sh*t.

Instead of making a new thread I thought I would just post my experience here.

I had my ZF auto serviced at Herrod Automotive and they did the Steel pan, genuine ZF oil, etc and I have to say im happy with it all.

I thought I would get the service done as the car is at 57k and the auto was starting to feel a little weird, especially with anything below operating temperature.

Now the car seems to feel much more responsive, and changes much smoother, pretty much like new.

The cost for the Oil, steel pan, filter, bolts, and labor was $680. Its a small price to pay for the peace of mind I have now and the difference it has made

Heres a sample of the oil that came out of it...

For that price including the metal pan, the torx bolts oil and labour it would have only been a service flush, and the torque convertor would not have been flushed and still had old oil in the box, kinda pointless really

I am also running Gulf Western and have done 7000km's and it's great

I just now got back from getting my trans serviced by a ZF agent (Eastern Automatics. The only NZ ZF agent) and I got the same as above plus the plastic fitting at the back of the box was leaking so he replaced that as well and it cost $720.00. Next change I will get a 20L of gulf western syntrans for $265 and a genuine filter for $100. I think I will get about 4 changes out of the 20L so not overly worried about the oil in the torque converter. The guy doing the job said the old oil smelt ok and the properties seemed in tact and is not the worst he's seen...

Kind of surprised the ZF agent doesn't power flush...

So far I haven't got above 60k's in it but it feels fine, I will try to do a few WOT 3rd to 4th changes this weekend to compare the slip with the Transmax.

How did you go with WOT 3rd to 4th?

I think I need to dump the transmax z, my trans is acting really wierd when cold.

Might give Gulf Western a go. Do I need to replace the filter? Iv'e only done about 5000kms since its last service.

If it was me I wouldn't worry so much about the filter unless you have a high powered motor and a built trans but I would do a couple of successive fluid changes because you're changing to a different fluid, unless you are doing a power flush.

If you have the metal pan you may as well do the filter on the second fluid change.
