Haven't had the ZF tune, I meant the car has been tuned again with the addition of a few goodies.

I believe something will break sooner or later because the car originally had 200rwkw and now has 380rwkw, I don't think the box was engineered for the extra torque. The clutches may have suferred a bit with a previous oil that made the box flare.

Got the ZF flushed today, oil smelt burnt but wasn't in too bad condition considering it's at almost 100,000 klms.

The boys at S&H do a fine job.

They also advised that there was absolutely no metal in the pan which is what I wanted to hear.

We used about 11.5 litres of genuine zf lg6 to do the flush.

I also replaced the heat exchanger with the new one made by Mahle and the plastic pipes just for peace of mind.

Car feels so much better going into fourth at WOT.

Shifts feel the same (never had any problems with shifts hot or cold).

Will probably service it again in another 50.000 klms.

As said by JC807 the new one is identical but made by Mahle, the KTM ones were apparently recalled by ford but I ordered it 3 times and got a KTM, I refused to accept this as it was the dealer (Sinclar Ford) that said they were recalled (otherwise they are most helpfull Ford dealer from my experience), picked up a Mahle one from Peter Warren (plenty in stock), the plastic lines were only purchased cause they were removed for the heat exchanger swap and to flush the box.

Heat Exchanger was $150

Lines were $90

Flush inc gen zf lg6 $600

I know people are getting very good results with GF, but this was said with the Transmax Z aswell. Some have issues and some don't. I wasn't game so stuck with ZF, If I build the box at a later stage then I may change to a different oil.

Has anyone else asked about a stock standard ZF service? My trustworthy dealer (been using them happily for years) says they just don't touch the 6 speed autos, and "anyone who does is just asking for trouble". I have been advised to get the gearbox serviced by a different service centre (much closer to where I live) who says he can do it for $190 including fluid. This prompted me to ask a few questions, and hearing that my Ford dealer doesn't touch them has raised alarm bells for me.

Seems a bit too cheap to me - has that mechanic serviced one before?? As its not as simple as drop fluid, change filter, refill etc.

The plastic pan will cost close to that, then you need to allow for fluid and labour too!

I'm sure some of the W.A members will be able to advise where to go.

The previous owner of my car also inquired about a trans service at Ford (Essendon, Vic) just before I purchased it, they said the same thing, doesn't need it, EVER!

Wow blast from the past! G'day Steve! :)

They are "sealed for life", with the aforementioned life being severly reduced if they arent serviced. As Dave said $190 is too cheap. You'd be lucky too check the oil level for that price @ dealer rates

Cheers, I have the feeling he thinks it's just the 4 speed. I might stay on the cautious side and follow Ford's instructions.

Definite blast from the past! I haven't been in here for about 18 months.

I'm getting a vibration at about 90-100km/h which I'm thinking might be the diff, hoping it isn't the ZF. Hopefully a fluid change will sort that out.
