I just had my ZF serviced recently because of lower speeds(20kms to 40kms) it was sort of knocking back to 1st I think and for assurance wanted it done, the previous owner said it was always highway km's and not knowing if he serviced it was a stress. So got it serviced with Transmax and a metal pan and was told to keep an eye on it (No music)lol for a couple of days. After about 2 days it felt ok but really weird very sluggish gear changes and sloppy if I could say that, flare's here and there. So we decided to change to ford's ZF fluid and what a difference no knocking or flares! it feels like new again. I know alot of people use transmax im not stating not to use it I guess every car is tuned and performed a different way, someone said to me that your ZF adapts to the way you drive and not every car is the same.

how do you drive your car mostly? my car mostly gets driven very sedately by my wife with the kids in the back, it takes a while for the auto to 'wake up' when I get to have my monthly fang.

My wife takes the car to work everyday!!! she is a revhead but knows her limits when not to give it a bit and when too give it a bit specially those red lions or fully sick ricer boys, All they see is this hotchick cruising and want to play and show off in front of her until they see that she can drive and smash them and they use all the excuses you can think of because she's stomped them.lol By the way my kids love it and we aren't too crazy.

Well I have to say I'm impressed with the mainlube in the zf, hold great on gearchanges and no nasty noises. As with the mainlube, I let the car warm up a bit and cycle through the gears for 5 seconds each while parked to get the oil to where it needs to be in the box.

My gulf western syntrans is still going great after approx 8000km.

Can get the genuine zf stuff through bursons, a mate got prices for me from zf aus and motospecs.

Was $650ish from motospecs & $590 from zf aus, 20l drum.

My gulf western syntrans was $153 for 20l, says specifically on the drum for ford 6spd auto.

Instead of making a new thread I thought I would just post my experience here.

I had my ZF auto serviced at Herrod Automotive and they did the Steel pan, genuine ZF oil, etc and I have to say im happy with it all.

I thought I would get the service done as the car is at 57k and the auto was starting to feel a little weird, especially with anything below operating temperature.

Now the car seems to feel much more responsive, and changes much smoother, pretty much like new.

The cost for the Oil, steel pan, filter, bolts, and labor was $680. Its a small price to pay for the peace of mind I have now and the difference it has made

Heres a sample of the oil that came out of it...

I used Transmax Z this week and I needed 9 litres including filling the converter. So with repco having Z on special this week only cost me $180 with 3 litres left over. And Z doesn't burn like ZF does when given a hard time, hence blackness.
