Also running more than stock boost helps. Edited 29/12/11 01:39 AM by Gasman

Many people have done it. Edited 29/12/11 05:26 AM by 1600dave

We have anti surge valves fitted to all the APU engines on the aircraft at work, basically they are electronically controlled pneumatically operated BOV's to stop the flutter so the jet engines don't crap out as often. These engines are made by Garrett and have similar bearing, compressors and turbines to our turbos, but hey a replacement turbo is only 2000-3500 bucks so why not wreck it. I think JET engines run a tiny bit more boost then us too..
getuted Member 34 Member For: 15y 5m 2d Gender: Male Location: brisbane Posted 13/01/12 10:14 AM Share Posted 13/01/12 10:14 AM I stuffed a GT3082r on my s14 in 9 months running it without a BOV with 16 pound of boost. I tried getting it repaired / replaced under warranty which wasn't honoured because it was recommended to me to have a BOV fitted when I had the turbo installed, so I priced up getting it rebuilt but it was $150 cheaper than a new turbo go figure? after having the car off the road for 7 weeks while I saved cash for a new turbo I fitted a turbosmart type 2 bov and the new turbo lasted 145000km and was still boosting strong when I sold the car. as for jet engine compressor discharge pressure in a typical 737-400 APU its hovers around 28 psi depending on air temp, humidity and fuel density, less then some street cars.
