How do you know whether the cables are connected the 'right' way? Can you see it or do you need to just swap and see and if not change back?

I was skeptical - but I figured its entirely possible if there was an issue with phasing. So I tested it first by opening the boot and jumping in the car and turned it up - sure enough, a lot less distortion, so I figured it must be fact.

pulled the plug apart and swapped the connectors and it now sounds pretty good for a factory system.

It used to distort around the 25-28 mark (volume level) but now I can almost top it out at 33 with minimal distortion.
